Severe weather. I'm Deborah Valentine. Fox News. A nor'easter prompting states of emergency in North and South Carolina and Georgia. Here's Fox's Anita Vogel.
A powerful and rare winter storm is slamming the southeast with heavy snow, hurricane force winds and brutal cold. It will eventually strengthen into what's known as a bomb cyclone. North Carolina is seeing its biggest snow in more than 20 years. More than a foot has fallen in some places. Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia are also now blanketed in snow. So far, more than 6,000 flights across the country have been delayed or canceled. About 190,000 people, mostly in the southeast, are still without power. The system will move up the east coast and could bring several inches of snow to Cape Cod. More Arctic air will move in behind the system.
Box weather is reporting at least 35 million people under winter weather alerts. 150 million plus people are under cold weather alerts. President Trump says he's ordered the Department of Homeland Security to stay away from protests in Democratic-led cities, save for certain situations. Fox's Angelo Bavaro has the latest.

The announcement follows weeks of protests after the shooting deaths of Rene Good and Alex Preddy in Minneapolis by federal agents who said they were reacting to threats. People opposed to the president's immigration enforcement crackdown have tried to closely follow immigration officers.
