What weather events are affecting the mid-Atlantic region?
Winter storm over the mid-Atlantic coast. I'm Roger Stern, Fox News. A snowstorm battering parts of the country and sending snow into North Carolina. Fox Weather's Bob Van Dillon is in Charlotte.
A lot of good forcing for heavy snow, and that's now edging right out of Greenville into the Piedmont of North Carolina. That's why we're starting to see these snowfall totals pick up, and this is just phase number one. This eventually will transfer its energy offshore, but that's not going to be until late this afternoon to the evening hours. So we're in it now with heavy bouts of snow.
Winds have been starting to pick up. Some of these areas might get blizzard-like conditions. Even around the Piedmont, if we see the winds cranking over 35 miles per hour, the visibility is going to start to drop. Drifting snow, that's going to be an issue also, but it's already starting to pile up.
There are Easter disrupting air travel, nationwide cancellations and delays, total 3,100 according to flightaware.com. For more weather updates, you can download the Fox Weather app. A partial government shutdown has begun, though lawmakers are hoping it won't last for very long. Fox's Madeline Rivera in Washington with more.
Most federal offices are closed through the weekend, so the effects of the shutdown may be minimal if the House votes to pass the bill when they return to D.C. on Monday. The package only funds DHS for two weeks, and during that time, Dems say they'll have negotiations on how to overhaul immigration enforcement.
In a call with House Republicans on Friday, House Speaker Mike Johnson said he wants a vote on the Senate deal Monday night. Johnson saying, I'm going to encourage you. No, I'm going to beg you to get back on Sunday night. It's very frustrating. I have been very frustrated by all of this, but I've got to tip my hat to the president. He knows the art of the deal.
Not clear how many will support the revised package. America is listening at Fox News.
