Chapter 1: What incident caused multiple injuries at LaGuardia Airport?
This is a Fox News alert, a runway collision leaving multiple people injured. I'm Sue Gossman. All flights are grounded this morning at LaGuardia Airport in New York City after a plane crashed on the tarmac on its way to the gate about 1140 Sunday night. At least four people were injured. Fox's Ashley Strohmeyer with the details.
Air Canada jet has reportedly collided with a fire truck while taxiing. Right now, it's not clear how many people are hurt, nor is it clear how many people were on board at the time. It's all happening during rainy weather all day long in New York.
Chapter 2: How is the FAA responding to the runway collision?
The FAA has issued a ground stop for all planes at the airport until at least 2 p.m. Eastern, effectively closing the airport.
The New York Post reporting there were 72 people on board, four people injured. The crew was among those on board. The captain, first officer, two flight attendants. The Air Canada Express flight was being operated by Jazz Aviation LP. President Trump says ICE agents will be deployed to airports across the country today. TSA call-outs continue amid the DHS funding crisis.
Sundays are usually pretty busy days at airports nationwide, but nothing like what we are seeing today. These TSA workers not getting paid anything is causing some crazy lines. It's just weaving until they get to the actual TSA checkpoint. About three, four hour waits at this point. People have missed flights. I've been hearing from people who say that they made it just in the nick of time.
So very frustrating for passengers and people have been staying positive, but it doesn't make things much better. Listen, I think this is just a sucky situation all around, but I hope they figure something out. I'm not even mad. I mean, I'm like frustrated, but you know, good luck to the workers. And it's not just here in Atlanta.
