US military has said US forces are on track to be out of Iraq by Wednesday. American troops invaded Iraq in two thousand three to topple Saddam Hussein, leaving in twenty eleven, but three years later Iraqi officials invited a smaller, US led mission to fight ISIS. With the extremist group later reducing to scattered sleeper cells, Washington and Baghdad agreed in twenty twenty four to start winding down the mission. The Iraqi government has demanded armed Militias lay down their weapons, but many have suggested they have no plans to do that. Iranian-backed Iraqi militias have struck US-linked targets in and outside of Iraq since the US and Israel launched a war against Iran in February.

What is the status of the U.S. military withdrawal from Iraq and its implications?
