Chapter 1: What winter storm impacts are affecting the Northeast?
Winter wallops a large part of the country. I'm Kathleen Maloney, Fox News. A potentially catastrophic storm is underway across dozens of states. As the millions affected brace for double-digit totals of snowfall. In the Northeast, cities like Washington, Philadelphia, and New York are going to be heavily impacted. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey.
It's going to continue through the night. We'll see a lull in the early morning, and then it's going to pick up again. Hopefully, this will all be behind us and out by sometime later in the day on Monday, Monday evening.
In New York City, five people are reported dead in the freezing weather and snow, and flights out of New York City area airports are experiencing heavy effects from the weather, with 94% of flights delayed or canceled at LaGuardia Airport. The storm states from Texas to Maine, millions affected by the double-digit totals of snowfall, crippling ice, and freezing rains.
This storm, unfortunately, it came as predicted, and it continues to gain some strength. Now, we've already seen icing. That's freezing rain.
Chapter 2: How are cities like New York and Philadelphia preparing for the storm?
In Nashville, Tennessee, power outages galore. And once it powers out, the temperatures are going to feel like the negative 20s in some of these spots. So you're talking about a wind chill of about minus 7 in Nashville itself. Where is the snow going? Up into the mid-Atlantic, New York City, you're going to see about 6 to 10 inches of snow.
Same with Philadelphia, but you're going to mix it in with a little bit of sleet and freezing rain. It'll buzz it down. For you guys in Washington, about 3 to 5 inches of sleet and snow. It's really a winter mess. But Boston, the big winner in New England. We're talking about over 20 inches worth of snow falling.

DHS says Preddy had a nine millimeter semi-automatic handgun on him and two full magazines. When he approached agents, officers tried to disarm Preddy, but they claim he violently resisted.
An agent fearing for his life ultimately shot Preddy.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says police believe Alex Preddy was a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry. After this latest deadly shooting by federal officers, calls are now growing louder for ICE and Border Patrol to leave the state.
Minnesota Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar on ABC's This Week said the number of federal agents overwhelming local police is causing deadly chaos.
It's wrong and it's completely out of control and out of balance and they need to leave our state.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanch on NBC's Meet the Press said no one wanted to see Alex Preddy shot and killed, but for him and the DOJ, the facts are... This is not a peaceful protest.
He was not protesting peacefully. He was interrupting an ICE operation...
A Minnesota federal judge late Saturday blocked DHS from destroying or altering evidence from the shooting scene as it investigates. Grinnell Scott, Fox News.
