This comes after a new statement from the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, one of the men responsible for negotiating on behalf of Iran. He says, quote, two of the measures mutually agreed upon between the parties have yet to be implemented. A ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of Iran's blocked assets prior to the commencement of negotiations.
These two matters must be fulfilled before negotiations begin. Now, the president spoke today with The New York Post, and he said, you're dealing against people that we don't know whether or not they tell the truth.
Fox's Trey Yangston, Tel Aviv. The tentative ceasefire, though, is faltering as Israel pounds Beirut and Iran maintains its grip on the Strait of Hormuz. Israel-Lebanon negotiations are expected next week in Washington. And the war is impacting inflation in the U.S. It soared to 3.3 percent in March from a year ago, fueled by the largest monthly jump in gas prices in six decades. Today's report shows consumer prices shot up to the hottest level in two years.
Economists say a higher inflation reading doesn't necessarily mean the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates because the Fed needs to consider both inflation and the state of the labor market. Fox's Jenny Kosola, the national average for gas is $4.15 a gallon. Authorities in Northern California arrested seven people yesterday for last summer's deadly fireworks explosion in Yolo County.
