How is Congress responding to calls for AI regulation and oversight?
Bernie Sanders wants to lead the way, regulating AI. I'm Dave Anthony, Fox News. Congress, under both Democratic and Republican control, have been asleep at the wheel. The independent senator on the left will host a bipartisan briefing today on artificial intelligence with leading scientists, including one called the godfather of AI. Fox's Madeline Rivera reports.
lawmakers in the nation's capital are deeply divided over artificial intelligence oversight, weighing national security risks against the danger of over-regulation. The president has cast AI fears as a hoax. Attorney General Todd Blanch is backing up the president's accusation that Democrats are using AI as a political issue in the midterms, adding it is not his agency's job to place guardrails on the technology.
If anybody associated with AI violates criminal law, we'll investigate that.
Why is the Kennedy Center renovation becoming a political flashpoint?
We already have.
Also in Washington, the Kennedy Center board votes to close the facility for renovation. After a federal judge again blocked them from putting President Trump's name on the center, the president then posted on Truth Social, if his name isn't put on the building, that renovation won't happen. This could also be controversial. A big U.S. weapons sale to Israel.
Several news organizations, including Reuters, cite U.S. officials as saying this arms deal is worth $2.8 billion. The package includes 20,000 bunker buster bombs which explode underground after penetration and 40,000 one-ton bombs whose use by Israel in Gaza and Lebanon has drawn international anger.
What are the details and controversies of the $2.8 billion U.S. arms sale to Israel?
Fox's Jonathan Savage. A building in Gaza being used by displaced Palestinians. Badly damaged in the Israel-Hamas wars collapsed, killing at least 16 people. Three people are dead in California. We did have a helicopter crash here. We do have one confirmed patient that seems to be outside of the helicopter when it crashed. Los Angeles Fire Captain Brandon Silverman, an NBC-LA4 TV reporter, and the pilot were also killed. America's listening to Fox News. We're learning more about what the Iran conflict is costing the U.S.
How much is the Iran‑related conflict costing the United States and what are the implications?
beyond the American casualties of 18 deaths and more than 800 injuries. A Pentagon report from the Inspector General at the War Department shows Iran's counterattacks in the Middle East have caused over $180 billion in damage to American facilities in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The Congressional Budget Office has a different tally.
The Budget Office estimates the cost of the conflict thus far at just over $38 billion through August 1st, and that moving forward it could range between $2 and $3 billion per month, depending on the level of fighting. One of the key points, the assessment that the U.S. military has used between one-half and two-thirds of its inventory of particular missile interceptors since June of 2025, when many were used to help defend Israel during that country's 12-day conflict with Iran. The CBO estimates that replacing that stockpile would take at least five years and could become problematic in potential conflict with a country such as China, which has a large inventory of both missiles and interceptors.
Kevin Uretzky, Fox News.
There is also a cost to the gas pump.
What will the Federal Reserve’s interest‑rate decision mean for the economy today?
With oil prices high, AAA's national average for regular gas up four more cents today, $4.36 per gallon. Diesel at a record high, $6.31. The Federal Reserve will continue a two-day meeting this morning assessing the economy and
then The central bank will be making its interest rate announcement at 2 p.m. Eastern time, followed by Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's post-meeting press conference 30 minutes later. The Fed is now expected to raise its benchmark funds rate to 3.75 to 4%. The first increase in more than three years as stubborn inflation, rising energy prices, and a robust labor market strengthen the case for renewed tightening.
Fox's Hillary Barsky. There could be a reaction to what the Fed does on Wall Street. Ahead of that, stock futures are rising modestly the day after more selling. The Dow dropped over 300 points. I'm Dave Anthony and this is Fox News.
