Chapter 1: What happened in the LaGuardia Airport crash?
This is a Fox News alert. A deadly crash has closed a major New York City airport. I'm Dave Anthony. It happened in LaGuardia just before midnight when an Air Canada Express flight from Montreal collided with a fire truck right after landing. We stopped really quickly, and then about two seconds later, we just had an absolute slam. Everybody was flying everywhere.
I mean, the plane started veering off left and right. The truck got clearance to cross the runway, but then, as heard on LiveATC.net... But it was too late.
We know two pilots were killed in this collision.
Fox is CB Cotton at Columbia, LaGuardia.
The fire truck was responding to a separate issue. The two people in the fire truck are expected to be okay. The Port Authority says as of right now, a total of 41 passengers and crew members were taken to the hospital and 32 people were released.
LaGuardia is closed in New York until this afternoon, and that has canceled more than 500 flights to and from there, adding to an air travel problem getting worse with hours-long security lines at some airports. As TSA agents keep working without pay in a Homeland Security funding showdown in Congress, some aren't showing up.
And as Democrats keep demanding immigration enforcement reform to fund DHS, they do not like this new plan. Starting today, ICE agents being deployed to help at some airports.
Borders are Tom Homan says ICE agents will be at the airports where the wait times are the longest. He indicates that their roles could be pretty limited, helping TSA workers at terminal exits and entries. TSA staff can then focus on the duties that do require specialized training like X-ray screening.
