What challenges did President Trump face upon arriving in Davos?
President Trump has just arrived in Davos. I'm Dave Anthony, Fox News. After he landed in Switzerland late to attend the World Economic Forum, an electrical issue had forced Air Force One to turn around last night.
Right now, they're trying to figure out scheduling. There's so many different moving parts whenever the president travels internationally. And to have an issue like this where the plane is late, you got to get on a new plane. Everybody's there late. President's supposed to probably go back. Typically, he'll go back. Go to a room, you know, like take some time out after that long flight and then begin meeting. Sometimes they hit the ground running.
Fox's Rich Edson at the White House says this is the big issue looming at the forum, taking Greenland away from a NATO ally, Denmark.
The president says it has to be the case that the United States controls Greenland. And that is a red line not only for the Danish, but for the Europeans as well. So someone's going to have to come up with some type of creative deal.
Commerce Secretary Howard Ludnick is also in Davos and tells Fox Business this is why Greenland's important. You can't have Chinese ships or Russian ships while you're coming through, you know, that strait. So America needs to protect it. But Europeans are considering retaliation to the president's threatened tariffs he'll impose on some countries opposing a Greenland takeover. Also at that forum, tomorrow the president plans to set up what he calls a board of peace to oversee the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire.
More countries are weighing in, greenlighting their participation, including Israel. The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement today on X saying, quote, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he accepts the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump and will become a member of the Board of Peace, which is to be comprised of world leaders. President Trump has floated the idea of replacing the U.N. entirely with his board.
