What is the current impact of the nor'easter on the Northeast U.S.?
It's still rough. I'm Paul Stevens Fox News, a strengthening nor'easter still charging up the east coast, leaving one man dead in Brooklyn, New York, and a swimmer missing off New York's Long Island, and more than seventy thousand customers without power in the Northeast.
This is not a hurricane, but it sure does feel like one. So some of those reports this morning, we're seeing 81 mile per hour wind gusts at Montauk at JFK 56 miles per hour. And here on Long Beach, it's really touch and go. So we do see that wind pick up a little bit at times, and then at other times it dies down like we're seeing right now. And that's really the nature of this storm. We know this nor'easter, it does move a lot. Different than your traditional tropical system and the way it's spin. So at times you'll see those bands move through, bringing that heavy rain and high wind like we're seeing right now.
How are New York and New Jersey communities coping with severe flooding?
And then at times it does get a little bit more normal and a little more calm. So that's why at this time officials are still telling people to stay off the roads and stay inside.
Fox Weathers Caroline Elliott on Long Island in Ocean City, New Jersey. Fox Weathers Katie Burns.
People who live here in Ocean City say this is the worst flooding they've experienced since Sandy. That rain is coming down really heavy once again. That's because the storm is actually swinging back towards the Jersey Shore. So we're expected to be the final bullseye. It was hard to place during the forecast, but now it's looking like the Jersey Shore is it for the worst impacts. We have streets submerged in water, row after row.
What details are known about the recent mass shootings in South Africa?
Dozens of streets have been underwater since yesterday. It has receded a little bit, but This morning's high tide is really our last big shot at significant additional flooding. We have some roads still closed here in Ocean City, as forecasters expect us to get this heavy rain on and off throughout the afternoon. Crews yesterday in Ocean City were busy sending high water trucks, multiple of them, to go rescue people who were stuck.
And coastal flooding will also continue to impact the greater New York City area from this storm. America's listening to Fox News. At least twenty-seven people are reported dead after two mass shootings in South Africa just hours apart. Police say eight gunmen armed with AK forty sevens and pistols killed seventeen people at a bar near Johannesburg on Saturday night. About four hours later, gunmen killed ten more people at a store near Cape Town.
What is happening at the UK air base near London and why is it significant?
No arrests have been made. The attacks coming just days after another mass shooting killed eleven people near Durban. A major security incident unfolding at a United Kingdom air base about ninety five miles west of London.
Multiple homes are being evacuated near a Royal Air Force base in Southwest England. This after several men were arrested on suspected explosives offenses. The Army's bomb disposal team is examining a number of vehicles in the area.
And that's Fox's Chanley Painter, a UK government spokesperson, saying the Prime Minister is being updated on the ongoing situation. Happening tomorrow, the U.S. Senate is set for final vote on a bipartisan bill that would reshape college sports. The Protect College Sports Act would establish national standards for name, image, and likeness rules and cap agent fees at five percent.
How might the Protect College Sports Act change NCAA name, image, and likeness rules?
It would also set new limits on athlete transfers, eligibility. And restrict coaches from leaving midseason for another collegiate program. If it passes, though it would still need approval in the House before reaching the desk of President Trump. And thousands of Americans gathering in New York City today, despite the weather, for the twenty fifth annual tunnel to towers five K run and walk, the event retraces the final footsteps of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Carrying 60 pounds of gear on September 11th, 2001. He died at the World Trade Center. I'm Paul Stevens. This is Fox News.
