Japan plans to put missiles on an island near Taiwan, a move that could anger China.
The Japanese government says it plans to install surface-to-air missiles on the island of Yonaguni by 2031. Yonaguni is less than 70 miles from Taiwan. And the decision comes after Japan angered China by saying it would activate its self-defense force if Beijing tries to invade Taiwan. Relations between the two countries are at their lowest level in years. Yesterday, China imposed export curbs on 20 Japanese companies and entities, citing national security concerns. A federal judge in Texas has ruled California's attorney general can face a defamation lawsuit over comments attacking ExxonMobil's plastics recycling claims. The judge wrote earlier this month, California Attorney General Bob Bonta cannot use official immunity because the comments appeared in a campaign email soliciting donations.
