Chapter 2: How did Iran respond to the U.S.-Israeli strikes?
The strikes began shortly after 1 a.m. Eastern. This is a rare joint U.S.-Israeli operation, synchronized and planned over a matter of months. A senior U.S. military official tells me this operation will last not hours, but days. Among the initial targets, the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's compound, which can be seen in satellite photos as mere rubble at this point.
It's not clear whether the Ayatollah was there. Other targets in the initial wave, the defense ministry, the parliament, the National Supreme Council, the Ministry of Intelligence, Iran's Atomic Energy Agency, as well as naval bases down near Bandar Abbas and Kark Island, along with targets in Bushehr, likely to include the nuclear reactor there.
Iran, Israel, and Iraq also announcing closure of their airspaces following the attack, which was carried out by land and sea.
Chapter 3: What are the objectives of the U.S. government in this operation?
The Israeli military saying missiles have been launched from Iran toward Israel. Israel's defense minister issuing a state of emergency. All U.S. government employees and their family members in Israel have been directed to shelter in place. America's listening to Fox News.

A Democratic governor under fire after an illegal alien allegedly kills a woman at a bus stop.
The Department of Homeland Security is calling upon Virginia's new Democratic governor, Abigail Spanberger, to ensure local law enforcement cooperates with federal immigration officials in handing over an illegal immigrant who allegedly killed a woman. The suspect, 32-year-old Abdul Jalloh of Sierra Leone, is charged with second-degree murder.
He allegedly fatally stabbed a 41-year-old woman found dead at a local bus stop. DHS says Jallo has a criminal history of more than 30 arrests. The request for cooperation comes after Spanberger signed an executive order to end cooperation between federal immigration officials and state and local law enforcement. Debra Valentine, Fox News.
Governor Spanberger's reps have not yet responded to a request for comment from Fox News Digital. Ahead of his visit to Texas on Friday, President Trump hinted at endorsements for a handful of GOP primary candidates in a race for U.S. Senate.
President Trump told that crowd in Corpus Christi that the Democrats are crazy and Republicans have to win the midterms to continue this work, lifting the country out of the inflation hole that he says the Democrats created. But so far, he has withheld his endorsement in the Texas primary as Democrats there eye a growing chance to flip the seat.
On the flight down, Texas Senator John Cornyn trying hard to avoid an ugly 10-week runoff in the three-way primary between Attorney General Ken Paxton and Congressman Wesley Hunt. As Cornyn warns, Democrats would have a real shot at the seat if Paxton's on the ballot in the general election.
And that's Fox's Jackie Heinrich at the White House. And recapping our top story, Iran now retaliating after the U.S. and Israel attacked Tehran early this morning. President Trump making the announcement overnight early this morning on social media. And we expect an update from the president.
