Why did the Tilt Parenting podcast change its name to Full Tilt Parenting?
Hey there, it's Debbie and I'm popping in your podcast feed with an exciting update to share with you today. After more than nine years and over 400 episodes, the Tilt Parenting Podcast is getting a new name: Introducing Full Tilt Parenting. Now, before I tell you why I made this change, I wanted to bring you back for a moment to where it all began. So when I started TILT Parenting, people would often ask me, What does TILT stand for? Is it an acronym? And the truth is, it doesn't stand for anything. The name actually came from From a photo of me and my then eight-year-old on a tilt-a-whirl ride at the Jersey Shore. So Darren snapped a shot of us. We were gripping the sides, smiling widely, hair flying everywhere, anticipating the next unexpected turn.
What’s the story behind the original “Tilt” name and its photo inspiration?
So it captured that sense of kind of chaos, but also joy. And there was something about that image that perfectly captured the feeling of parenting a neural. Divergent child. And that was the summer before our family made some really big changes. And I actually started a blog back then that was called Tilt a World because that's what we were doing. We were tilting ourselves, we were adjusting course, and we were holding on for the ride. And that metaphor still holds. But over time, this podcast has become something more. It has become a lifeline. It's become a place for deep.
How does Full Tilt Parenting differ from the “intensive parenting” trend mentioned by the NYT?
Reflection, for practical guidance, and for community. And the work that we are doing here together, it's not just about adapting, it's about showing up with full intention, full heart, and full commitment. So about a year ago, the New York Times ran a story about the rise of what they called intensive parenting. And while I understood the concept, I didn't see us reflected in that piece. Because for us, parenting this way, it's not about following trends or checking boxes. It's about our lived experience. We are raising kids who challenge us to question everything we thought we knew and to meet. Meet them with radical presence and trust. And to be clear, we didn't choose this kind of parenting. It chose us.
What does “full‑tilt” mean for parents of neurodivergent children?
But even though it can be exhausting and overwhelming at times, it's also profoundly transformative. It invites us into the deepest kind of growth and it really requires us to keep on showing up, even when things feel messy or uncertain. And that's what full Tilt parenting is all about. We are all in. We're committed to this journey and to having our kids' backs. We're here for the dips and turns. We're here for the hard days and the breakthroughs. And yes, we are also here for the joy and the fun and those beautiful moments of connection and lightness that reminds us why this work matters so much. In addition to the name change of the show to Full Tilt Parenting, I'm excited to share that this show is.
Where can listeners find the show now and how can they help grow the movement?
Now, also available on YouTube. You can find the show at Full Tilt Parenting on YouTube, and I would love it if you would subscribe there. This is a new way for the show to reach more people and to grow our movement of helping neurodivergent kids and our families thrive. So, subscribing and sharing will help. Help more people discover the show. So please consider passing it along to your communities, to your parent groups, to your kids' OTs and therapists, anyone who has a stake in seeing our kids be seen, supported, and embraced for who they inherently are. I don't know about you, but I am doubling down on this movement for our neurodivergent kids that we're in together. This paradigm shift that we're a part of.
So thank you for being on this ride with me. I'm so grateful for this community and I can't wait to see where we go next together.
