In the best of circumstances, schools and families have limited time to meet, to discuss, to talk, right? Pediatricians, limited time. So this kind of tool helps you make the most of that time that is available, especially now when things are being done by video and kind of everything else. You don't even have the advantage of sort of the personal contact, right? So the more clear you can be, the more organized can be, the better your results gonna be.

Today's episode is about introducing you to a new initiative from Understood called Take Note. It's a simple, free, step-by-step tool created to help parents figure out if the struggles they're seeing in their child might be signs of a learning and thinking difference. Understood has teamed up with the American Academy of Pediatrics to bring you vetted expert information on various differences in disorders, tools to help observe and recognize patterns in your child's behavior, and finally, tips to facilitate better conversations with your child, your partner, teachers, and healthcare providers.
So if you're thinking, wow, this sounds like just what I needed X number of years ago. Well, I'm not sure. That's exactly the point. And that's why I'm excited to share it with all of you. To tell us all about it, I am joined by two of Understood's resident experts and the co-hosts of the In It podcast, yet another amazing offering from Understood. If you haven't heard it yet, be sure to check that out. Amanda Morin is the senior expert in family advocacy and education for Understood and a frequent guest of this show, and Bob Cunningham is the Executive Director of Learning Development as well as a nationally known education leader. In this conversation, Amanda and Bob will tell us all about Take Note, how to use it, why it was created, what makes it such a unique and powerful tool for parents and caregivers, and more.
We'll also talk about the power of us as parents observing patterns in our kids' behavior to help us suss out what might actually be going on and learn how to have effective and fruitful conversations with pediatricians and other specialists. Hi Debbie, thanks for having us join.
Yes, I'm excited. So when I have two guests, it's always a little bit of a dance. So we'll see how it goes. But you guys are pros and you are also co-hosts of your own podcast. So I'm presuming that you have this supernatural. Ebb and flow between the two of you, is that correct? You can presume that if you'd like.
We we absolutely do. I just defer to Amanda, Debbie. That's how it works best.
All right. That sounds like a good plan. Well, let's start with actually before we get into the topic for today. I always start my podcast by asking my guests to more casually introduce themselves as opposed to the more formal bio that I read in the introduction. So Amanda, you've been on the show several times, but take a few minutes and tell us about who you are in the world and and what you do. And then Bob, you are New to the podcast, welcome. And uh tell us a little bit about yourself as well.
I guess I will start. I'm Amanda Morin. I'm a writer and senior expert in family advocacy and education at Understood. I'm also a mom to three kids, two of whom uh learn differently. and an author and just all around Here I am kind of person today, I think. Uh you know, Bob and I co host Undersood's podcast In It. And um That was the worst introduction ever, but I'm gonna roll with it.
You roll with it. It was great. You, you know, you were saying I'm just an all-around and in my mind I'm thinking awesome person. So yes.
