Well, welcome back to Fully Alive. Today's guest brings together two worlds that are rarely combined at this level, ancient healing wisdom and cutting edge regenerative medicine. Dr. Yi Song was raised in Beijing in a 17 generation medical family before training in pathology at Brown University and eventually becoming a leader in regenerative and holistic medicine. She's the founder of Zenerchi Health and the Zenerchi Retreat in Columbia. where she worked with advanced stem cell therapies, traditional Chinese medicine, anti-aging science, and personalized healing approaches designed to help people extend not just lifespan, but healthspan. In this conversation, we explore the future of regenerative medicine, the promise and controversy surrounding stem cell therapy, what ancient Chinese medicine understood about aging thousands of years ago, and how prevention, balance, and root cause healing may hold the keys to living longer, healthier, more vibrant lives.

Dr. Yi Song 2:34
I'm very happy to share whatever I can contribute to your community, your podcast.
Zach Gurick 2:41
Well, great. So you grew up in, you make sure that I have all this right, but a 17 generation medical family in Beijing. Is that right? So you're the 17th generation in a row of healers, doctors, physicians, that sort of thing. Yes. Wow. So this is like in your genes. I mean, it's in your DNA, you know, to be a healer.
Dr. Yi Song 3:03
Well, I guess I think even when I was six years old, I always wanted to do something in medicine.
Zach Gurick 3:10
So it's really a calling for you, sounds like.
Dr. Yi Song 3:15
Yeah, I think also because I saw my grandmother suffering a lot in her later ages. So she had type 2 diabetes and then she didn't really take care of herself properly when she was having diabetes in her 40s, 50s. So she had a lot of complications in her 70s and 80s. She passed away at age 84, I believe.
Okay.
Zach Gurick 3:41
Yeah. So, yeah, you have your own unique story of how that's impacted you, I'm sure. But so you grew up in Beijing, you have this 17 generation like family tradition, and then you moved across the world to go to college at Brown University. So, I mean, that's a huge kind of merging of worlds, would you say?
Dr. Yi Song 4:02
Yeah, I will say that because I guess at that time I wanted to come to United States to study pathology because I really wanted to learn the fundamental mechanism of disease. Because I always know if you want to treat any disease, you have to treat the root cause. And once you can address the root cause, that's how you can solve people's suffering. That's why at that time I thought, you know, studying pathology will really solve the fundamental root cause of disease that I can solve a lot of suffering, relieve people from suffering of degenerative conditions related to aging.
Zach Gurick 4:42
Okay. So yeah, I would love to just dive into some of that with you. And you talk a lot about you know, prevention and regeneration and regenerative therapies. And your mother had an experience with stem cell therapy as well, right? So that's kind of, is that what led you down this path to really dive into stem cell therapies as well?
