So we're going to be talking about nursing homes and advanced dementia.
What is the ADVANCE study and why does it matter for advanced dementia care?
This came from a JAM IM study that Ruth just published, the advanced study of Association of Nursing Home Organizational Culture and Staff Perspectives. With variability and advanced dementia care. We're gonna dive into that study and others. I just wanna say one of my favorite studies, Ruth. It was like what, ten years ago you published an archives paper? I did. Yes, I did. I love that. Every time I quote that study all the time.
That is like uh there are two studies that I give out as exemplars of like outstanding qualitative research. And one of them is Karen Steinhauser's uh Annals of Internal Medicine paper on In Search of a Good Death. And then the other is your paper on feeding tubes and nursing home culture uh associated with, you know, nursing homes with high rates of feeding tubes and low rates of feeding tubes.
Oh thanks. Cause it just it's I I will have a link to it on our show on our show notes, but it just I love how it just paints a picture. And I think the same is true for this JAMA IM study. But before we talk about all that, I think somebody has a song request for Alex.
Yes, Alex, I am requesting Kenny Chesney's while he still still knows who I am. Um as a very young caregiver myself for my parents who had advanced dementia, um, you know, as a teenager, like this was just a really powerful uh song that just hit home as a caregiver um and just the living with someone who has dementia and and knowing what's kind of on the horizon and and this this topic in Ruth's work in particular with feeding tubes was you know a decision that I had to make for my father many, many years ago, um twenty five, thirty years ago and so uh so bring it on.
