Welcome everyone to the Group Dentistry Now show. Uh I am Bill Newman and as always we appreciate you joining us today. We are two hundred and fifty plus podcasts in. So uh, you know, I Like to think that we get a lot of different perspectives, but uh with our next guest here, I think it's gonna be a really unique perspective. We get a lot of input from People that are CEOs of DSOs and maybe smaller organizations, a lot of times it's from the provider side of things. I'm really excited to get Paul's perspective here. Uh, he is the CEO of Invista and they are a company that I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with. Maybe some of you aren't, but I am sure you are very familiar. and are probably using a lot of the their products within your practices.
Bill Neumann 1:35
So we have Paul Keel. He is the Chief Executive Officer at Invista. Paul, thanks for joining us today.
Paul Keel 1:41
Thank you, Bill. Good to be here.
Bill Neumann 1:44
So I'll run through Paul's uh bio a little bit here and then uh I I'm sure I won't do him justice. So I'll let him fill in some blanks and then he can uh really talk more about uh Invista. So uh Paul is the CEO of Invista. Uh before that he was the CEO of Smith's group. And what I found interesting with his bio, also spent two decades at 3M. some time on the medical side of things, but he's not new to dental. He was actually part of three M as you were the president there of their specialty dental division. So he has the experience there He spent time at GE, McKinsey, and General Mills, all very large organizations. Most people are very, very familiar with. And uh so I'll stop there and I'll let you fill in blanks on uh your bio, a little bit about your, you know, your story, and then if you can kind of get uh the audience up to speed on Invista, because like I mentioned.
Bill Neumann 2:44
people know the the brands, I am sure. You probably have a percentage. I'll bet you A an office can ninety nine percent of the o dental offices out there probably use one or more of a an advista dental product, right, or solution.
Paul Keel 3:03
Yep. No, I think I mean your your statistic is is actually almost exactly right. Uh 90% of the dental clinics on the planet use one or more uh Invista product. Uh most people won't be familiar with the company name, InVista. Um that's important if you you own the stock. Um, but as you suggested, everyone will know the brands. So Ormco, Nobel, Biocare, Implant. Direct, curr, metrics, oroscopic, all of those. The company is one of the oldest dental companies in America. It started all the way back in 1891 with our curr business. And across the last 134, 35 years, you know, has expanded into other categories and other countries. So we have global company now, publicly traded, uh, and participates in in pretty much every uh major segment of the dental landscape.
Bill Neumann 4:04
And and just a little bit more about your background and maybe how you ended up um i at Invista because again, you've got a lot of experience with a lot of large organizations. Uh you did get when you moved over to 3M, got experience in in medical, uh and of course in dental. So you've you've got experience across a lot of different companies, but talk maybe a little bit about your journey.
Paul Keel 4:30
Yeah. I mean you mentioned that I spent uh, you know, call it 20 years at 3M. Um, my first job at 3M, I was the the head of strategy and MA for their healthcare business. That that is now a separately traded, publicly uh publicly traded company called Salventum. And that was back in the early 2000s. And at that time, um 3M was was very interested in increasing uh its presence in uh in dental. So I spent a lot of my time looking at different dental partnerships and acquisitions.
