What is the Focus Stack Thursday format and how does it turn Monday’s ideas into real‑world actions?
Hey, hey mamas, welcome to Focus Stack Thursday. This is the new format for our Thursday episodes where we're going to take what we talked about on Monday and we're going to apply that conversation to your real life, giving you action steps or simple stack challenges, anything that you can take and actually apply over your weekend. So this is your opportunity to stack right alongside me, rework, redesign the routines that you live in your life. Let's get to it. Hey, mamas, welcome back. All right. We're going to get right into it again today. I hope that you're loving this new Thursday format. No fluff, just practical ideas you can start implementing right away. If you haven't already, go download the weekly focus guide.
It's free. You'll find that down in the show notes. Every Thursday's challenge is built around that guide because I don't want you just listening to these episodes and thinking, okay, that's great. Maybe I'll do that. No, I want you to think through how can you apply it to your home and your life? We can't simply create new routines, just guessing. I'm just going to try this. What did you actually do? I don't know. I just did it. No, we're trying to create routines that actually support you in whatever season you're in. The weekly focus guide walks you through that process by helping you evaluate what's working. or what's no longer working. But then you have to make the small adjustment you want before the next week rolls around.
Practice it, experience it. Did it work? Did it not? If you're not focused on it, then you won't actually see any progress. This week, we're focused on understanding your cleaning routine. It's the idea of maintenance mode. It's just maintenance. So use the questions on this guide and reflect on your current cleaning situation, meaning the cleanliness, the clutter, all the things in your home. Reflect on that because it's meant to help you in this topic. Grab it, print it off, and let's get started. On Monday, I told you that I don't think we're missing a finish line, the perfect clean house.
How can you identify the cleaning tasks that will give you the biggest visible progress in your home?
I think we're missing the visible progress. If you pictured cleaning one room and nobody ever goes back in it, then moving to the next room and then nobody ever goes in it, those two rooms would stay clean. That's visible progress. But it doesn't work like that as a mom because by the time you've moved on to the third room, the kids are in the first room messing it up. So one of the biggest problems with staying in maintenance mode all day is that it keeps you from making progress anywhere else in your house. I want you to think about it. If you're constantly wiping the counters, picking up the towels, loading up that dishwasher, sweeping the floors 20 times with the crumbs falling on it, You're just following your kids around, cleaning up their messes.
When do you ever have time to tackle the things on that list that need your attention that don't have anything to do with the rooms you're following each kid into? I'm talking about the overflowing linen closet, The junk drawer that you've been completely avoiding or the pantry that had all the chips spill out in it three months ago that you never got to. And so every time you pull a bag of chips out, you see all the crumbs sitting in the bottom of the pantry. The closet full of clothes that your kids have completely outgrown. When do you have time for that? The piles of paper that have built up on your counter. Maintenance, meaning I followed my kids around and I cleaned up the rooms we spent time in today because that's the mess that we made.
I maintained it. It has a way of convincing us that we're being productive because we were busy all day long. But at the end of the day, we've spent all of our energy maintaining today's mess instead of making tomorrow easier. That's why I don't want you measuring your success by how many times you wiped the counter because you could wipe it all day long with our little sticky finger gremlins that come running around. I want you measuring whether your home has made progress, moved forward.
