Jess Przulj 0:01
Hey, hey mamas, welcome to Focus Stack Thursday. This is the new format for our Thursday episodes where we're gonna take what we talked about on Monday and we're gonna apply that conversation to your real life, giving you action steps or simple stack challenges, anything that you can take and actually apply over your weekend. So this is your opportunity to stack right alongside me, rework, redesign the routines that you live in your life. Let's get to it. Hey mamas, welcome back. Before we jump into today's focus stack, don't forget to go grab your weekly focus guide. It's down in the show notes if you have not printed it off already, or go grab the one you've printed off in the past and make another copy.

Because every Thursday episode is designed to give you one practical thing, just one thing. to work on over the weekend so that by Monday you're walking into a new week with a little bit better plan, one habit, one routine stack at a time, instead of just reacting to whatever the week throws at you. In our last episode we talked a lot about habits and routines and we talked about how they can be on autopilot. How our brain creates the habit in the first place. You have to understand why it's being created. It's that craving. Well, today I want to answer the next natural question. How do you actually build a routine that works? How do you even start evaluating it? Is this a good routine or a bad routine?
Jess Przulj 1:38
And most moms try to build a routine in isolation. That's why when I sit down with someone, they're like, I need to rework my morning routine. Well, I personally believe that's not the right way to ask that question. I think there is a better question. And that question is, what does my week require from my routine? Because your routine doesn't exist on its own. It's not beautiful on paper. Like I sit down and I'm like, okay, morning routine, let's go. That's not how I design a routine. My routines exist inside of my week. So let's talk about what I mean by that.

How can I determine the real goal of my week before tweaking my routines?

Jess Przulj 2:18
As moms, we get up in the morning. All of us wake up, God willing, we get up, and some days we do that with an alarm, sometimes our kids are alarms, and sometimes we're blessed. To not be woken up by an alarm and we get up when we want to. Sometimes it's with kids. Sometimes they sleep in a little bit longer than us. Sometimes they're there with us to get up. That's the initial anchor of our morning. We wake up. One way or another, the children are there, maybe they're not. What do you do next? What's the very next thing you do? You walk down the hallway, you brush your teeth. You enter into the living room, you see laundry. It catches your eye, so you pick it up. As you're putting that in the laundry basket, you see some toys, so you clean those up.

Maybe you walk past the mail on the counter, so you kind of sort through that. And then you make a coffee and maybe a child wakes up so you start breakfast. Then another one needs help and so forth. And then finally you find yourself on Instagram or turning on the TV. And before you know it, ninety minutes have passed. And you never actually even decided what kind of morning you wanted. You just floated. You floated for ninety minutes with no plan, no decisions, you just let your mind wander wherever it went. So is that still considered a routine? Well technically, yes it is. Those are the steps that we did first thing when we woke up. So it is your morning routine. But

What is the “Weekly Stacking Session” and why do I do it on Thursday?

Jess Przulj 3:51
Is that routine helping you get the desired outcome? Well, that depends on what week we're in. If it's in the middle of summer The outcome might be relaxation, slow morning. Then, yes, it does fit. That was the perfect morning routine. Is it efficient? No. Well, then was it a good routine? If your outcome was relaxation, And get everybody up. Maybe you go do some errands, maybe you hang out and watch TV for the day, then yeah, it's the best outcome you could possibly have. But if it was to get out the door by a certain time to go do those errands, maybe it's not the best routine. It's just what you did without thinking. Or maybe it's Monday morning and the school bus comes in forty-five minutes.
