What is the core problem with trying to change habits using willpower alone?
The truth is that we can, through our own awareness, become aware of patterns that otherwise were not visible to us.
I'd love to hear from you what people get wrong when they're trying to create transformation in their life.
Can we release it, step into something new, upgrade our operating system with the awareness of what it is? Because there's three things that we truly need.
What if the thing you're most ashamed of is the exact place where possibility is waiting? Welcome back to the Healing and Human Potential podcast, where today we're exploring how patterns installed long before we could even consent to them still shape our lives, why lasting change requires becoming somebody new rather than trying harder, and what opens up when we stop hiding the parts of ourselves that we've been managing. Joining us is Jim Curtis, transformational coach and author of the Book of Possibility. Who takes us through his release, align, and become process, reminding us that what we're searching for isn't actually missing. Let's dive in. I know that a lot of people try to change their life from the outside in, like new habits, new goals, new routines.
And then they wonder why they don't create sustainable change. And I'd love to hear from you what people get wrong when they're cr trying to create transformation in their life.
Yeah. I love that question because it really begs the question, is willpower enough when you say, I want something different, and you go out and you try to do it, and all of a sudden You go back in an old pattern and all of a sudden you're in the same old pattern, the same familiar. Uh the same familiar parts of you are showing up. And also I I talk to a lot of people. I was there myself. It's like I'm not feeling great. I feel stuck. I'm gonna move. You know, like maybe I'll move, you know, Costa Rica.
Like the problem is the location. Right, right.
I'm in New York City, maybe I'll move to California and I've had this thinking that you cannot escape your mind. Or I'm gonna
change partners or jobs. Yeah. Yes, yeah, outside in. Yeah, outside in. It
may be fun for a couple of weeks and then it's like, oh, I'm still here. Uh and and so I think the real thing that people are missing is that they have this subconscious patterns, these this these stories that we get caught in that develop our identity and that create our reality. And so once we start to really get into the subconscious, those patterns. then we can start to say, oh Things can change differently. I'm no longer in the cage. But until then, willpower will only go so far.
Yeah. And it can feel really deflating and defeating. People are like, I'm doing everything I
can.
But it actually makes it harder when you don't go under the hood, when you don't access the subconscious.
One hundred percent.
Yeah. And and I know you have a three part process to support people. Can you take us through a high level of your framework? Yeah. And then also each one of those on a high level.
Yes. Cool. I'd love to. So I found this by doing the work myself. And then I was really interested in helping people lead this and although I was in the corporate life people always say this there's almost almost this mysticism. There's this like reprogramming your subconscious mind and then I had an interview lately and it was not um It was very mainstream, uh, the the outlet. Mm-hmm. And uh she's like, Where's the third party peer reviewed scientific evidence that you can reprogram your subconscious mind? Yeah. I was like, Well Right. Where is the subconscious mind? Right? First of all, where is it? Yeah. And so I can, you know, the how do you reprogram? It's not like you can reach in and extract something. So is there peer-reviewed res?
So the truth is that we can, through our own awareness, become aware of patterns that otherwise were not visible to us because we were living inside the pattern. Yeah. And so that's the first step is release. And release is becoming aware of the pattern, realizing it's living within us, realizing this thing that we call reprogramming the subconscious mind.
