I am really, really excited to have this conversation today.
Now I definitely need to preface this whole conversation. It's going to be honest, it's going to potentially be a little bit heavy, it's going to be raw. Um and there is a little bit of uh a little trigger warning for you to start with here um on pregnancy loss. But Let's uh let's pick that back up now. I'm really excited to introduce my lovely friend Holly from Wonderlust Events. Thank you for being on the podcast today, Holly. Oh, you're welcome. So good to be here. Um, so this is a conversation that we have wanted to have for a very long time. I think we've sort of discussed it and I think now is is a good time for both of us to to have this conversation. Um, so we obviously want to talk about the balance or the non existent balance of motherhood in business and being an entrepreneur.
Um and I think maybe a good start place for this conversation is to kind of maybe talk about what it's like for people when they're considering having children whilst having a business. And I think we're in very good positions because we are both now mothers. Yeah. Like, thankfully. And we chose to have our children and our businesses, which are our other babies, yeah. At different times. So I think we bring different perspectives to the conversation. What do you think, um, as a woman, women are going through when they've already got a business and they are considering starting a family?
I think it's a really interesting one because I think particularly in a wedding industry we're in this situation where we have such seasonal work a lot of the time, particularly I find myself our you know, our season is May till October and within that you're always thinking, if you are thinking about having a baby, you're always thinking, Okay, when should that fall? How you know, you don't know how long it's gonna take to conceive and I think you are always kind of thinking ahead of if that happens, who will who would I be letting down? Would I be letting anyone down? And it's really hard to kind of work out how to kind of go about that. Um and I think, you know, not that everybody is always thinking about trying to conceive some people just fall pregnant and and they they work that out.
Um, but for me it was a a really big consideration of kind of working around the seasons as such, which um I do remember actually feeling really kind of tricky at first because particularly where I'm mainly doing destination, even like taking things into account like I'd only be able to fly up to thirty two or thirty six weeks pregnant. I think thirty two's for twins. Um but yeah, if you're thirty six weeks pregnant, then you know, you can only fly until that point, which is still quite late on to be honest. And then you're actually thinking, Okay, well, when would I need to land and be out of the country before that? And then therefore, you know, where does that fall with that wedding and that client?
So I remember it the heat. Yeah, yeah, the heat. And um And I just remember it feeling really intense of, Okay, well, do we start trying here? And then you've got a five month window and if you don't you have to stop trying and then start again and it's a lot to work out, I think, uh particularly once you're in business because you just want to You don't want to let anyone down. I think that's the hardest thing. Um And I think, don't get me wrong, there's there your clients I think are mostly always understanding if you are in that position.
