Melissa, welcome to the pod. Thank you so much for having me. I've been eyeing this one up for quite a while, so I'm glad to be here.
Lauren Goodman 0:59
And just kind of actually just within the world. Yes. Yes. Um For our audience that don't know who you are and don't know what you do, do you want to just kind of give us a little intro into you and your business?
Melissa 1:09
Yeah, of course. So I am Melissa and um I have a business called MB Weddings and Events. Um and I'm a wedding content creator. And yeah, just I'm three years in now. So things feel like I've been doing them for a long time, but also still feel very fresh. I'm in that kind of part and Yeah, just really kind of on developing the brand at the minute, growing it, scaling it, um and just yeah, kind of educating about it I guess as well. So yeah, really excited to chat to you about it today.
Lauren Goodman 1:36
Yeah, absolutely. Thank you. So I think Obviously, I mean content is exploding and has been for obviously quite a few years now. But it I feel like it's really taken hold of the wedding industry. It has. Um, which is why I wanted to get you on and and to chat about it because it I mean it's not only is it for actually for weddings for couples, but also brands are kind of really needing to lean into content as well. And there's a bit of controversy in there too with the whole content versus like videographers kind of thing. So I just kind of wanted to tap into all the different facets of those conversations. Exactly. And and also like, you know, standards, because there's a lot of really good people out there, but there's also a lot of questionable people out there.
Lauren Goodman 2:17
Yeah. And as a planner, when we're looking for content creators, I mean I feel like I'm seeing it all and being approached by Lots of interesting. Yeah.
Melissa 2:27
Yeah. Brands. Um it's quite a busy space at the minute. It's very busy. And I think that's probably because the barrier to entry is quite low.
Unknown 2:35
Very.
Melissa 2:35
Um, you know, we're not having to invest in ten thousand pounds worth of equipment to even, you know, begin s obviously starting. So I think yeah, with the barrier being quite low, it's It definitely is allowing a lot more people in and I think it's very much about, you know, educating yourself and be you know, very disciplined, but I think without those kind of spaces where you can learn and and find out about them. I think yeah, you're right, the standard is very questionable at times. Yeah, definitely. And I think you have to be very careful, you know, and do your research.
Unknown 3:04
For sure.
Lauren Goodman 3:05
Um I'd actually really love to just start with kind of understanding first of all how you got into this space. Um I think that's a just a really good
Melissa 3:15
place to kind of start with amazing yeah um well I actually started like I said three years ago now and um kind of would you know call myself one of the OGs as such you know very much started right at the beginning there was only sort of like a very m like two or three or four of us when I first started. Um so I kind of got in at the right time. Um I think people coming in now it's a lot harder for them to sort of find their way and find their path and obviously, you know, build a name. Whereas for me, it was great at the beginning, you know, I kind of came in had so much work, you know, I had work in abundance.
