If you've been listening to Job With Julie for a while, have you noticed that there aren't any ads here? Well, that's intentional because we want this podcast to feel like a safe place for conversations about God and sexuality. At Authentic Intimacy, we hear every day how much these conversations matter. And if this podcast has encouraged you, challenged you, or helped you feel just a little less alone, would you consider becoming a monthly donor? Your partnership helps us reach more people with truth, hope, and healing, and I would love to have you as part of our team. As a way to say thank you, I'm going to send you a copy of my new updated book, 25 Questions You're Afraid to Ask About Love, Sex, and Intimacy.
You can become a monthly partner today at authenticintimacy.com slash give, or just look for a link in the show notes. Now let's head to the coffee shop. Hey, welcome to another episode of Java with Julie. I'm Julie Slattery. This podcast is an outreach of a ministry called Authentic Intimacy, which really aims to help people make sense of God and sexuality. And I'm here today with a couple friends, Hannah Nitz and Joe Caruso. Hannah, you are my cousin and a very, very frequent co-host on Java with Julie. You always say yes when I ask, so thank you.
For better or for worse, here I am.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Always for a better hand, at least from my perspective. Thanks, Julie. And Joe, you are a pastor at Grace Church right down the street and also a member of the Board of Authentic Intimacy. So appreciate your pastoral wisdom and your concern and experience in just everyday dealing with the kinds of issues that we're going to be tackling even today.
Yeah, it's good to be here. It's always intimidating to be here.
Why is that?
Well, intimidating might be the wrong word, but I was just a fan for a long time of listening to the resources, reading the resources, and all of a sudden it's like, hey, do you want to be on the podcast? I'm like... Me?
Yeah. You
know, like, so that's what I mean. It's
just like, cool. You can't just read now. You gotta talk. Yeah, dang it. You gotta talk, bro. Oh, yeah. And you know what? This is a fun week for you to be on, though, because we're so excited that it's book launch week. Mm-hmm. Can you even believe that? I know. That's
a big deal.
So exciting. So on Tuesday, June 2nd, a revised edition of your book, Julie, 25 Questions You're Afraid to Ask About Love, Sex, and Intimacy is officially available. Bookstores near you, wherever you get your books, get it. It's going to be there. So if you pre-ordered it, it could actually be sitting at your front door today. That's the best thing about a pre-order.
You get it,
you spend the money, you forget about it, and
then it's like a gift. It's like a
surprise. Or
you could be
listening to this in the future, and you can go back and get it right now.
Wow. That's the beauty of podcasts. String theory, right? Yes, exactly. So this book has the 25 questions that we are asked, that Julie has asked most often. And we've been going through those questions. We're going to keep going through more of them because we've covered about half of them so far. So yeah, you have to pick up the book, get the other half. But today we're going to talk about one of those questions, Julie. Okay.
And
one of the questions in the book, one of the questions you get asked all the time, is what do I do if my spouse is looking at porn? So we want to start the conversation by saying there's a reason you put this question in the book and there's a reason why so many men and women are asking us about this. And we just want to give a small peek into some of the statistics around pornography just to kind of frame this conversation to realize if you're listening, you're not alone. and the number of individuals that this is impacting. So we're going to talk about this national survey, which is done in 2024, and it was called Beyond the Porn Phenomenon. And it found that about four out of five men, which is 78% of men, admit to using porn.
27% say they view it weekly, and 15% said they view it daily.
