Absolutely. And I am enjoying a delicious cup of coffee in a mug. And you're saying, what's that mug sports, Dan? I'm going to tell you right now. It is a mug from my good friends at Victory Tire and Otto, where they believe in relationships and their goal is to serve customers for the long term. Chapter 2: What are the highlights of Filip Gustavsson's performance at the Olympics?
All right. To the U.S. game. Yeah. And we talked about this on Far Down quite a bit, so we won't belabor it too much. And then they play.
Chapter 3: How did Sweden fare against Finland in their Olympic matchup?
So they won their first game. They play against Lafayette. They play Denmark on Saturday. But I do want to circle back to this. When do you think we are going to know more about their improvement? Because it's going to be hopefully incremental game by game.
And how confident now are you that when they start to play the most important games out of group play, and we've talked about the fact that group play is not very good, What is your confidence that this team is going to be ready to fire on all cylinders against superior competition to what I think they're going to see for sure in the first two games?
And I certainly don't expect, despite the fact that Germans have Leon Dreisaitl, that the U.S. is going to lose. They should not lose to Germany.
I don't know we're going to get ā I don't know that I'm going to get my stamp of approval. I know they're ready for the best of the best here at any point during these first three preliminary games. But tomorrow against Denmark, I need to see them come out and start playing like we saw in the second period of yesterday's game against Latvia. There was a warming-up period in ā
I'm not going to belabor it, but I'm not going to, I guess, continue to harp on it because it is the first game of the first period. It's the first period of the first game of the Olympics for this team.
There's going to be a probably growing into the game process, and I don't expect them to fire on all cylinders right from the get-go as much as maybe me and a lot of the fans watching would love to. What we saw in the second, though, they were quick. The passing was crisp. In the first, it was like they were an elite hockey team at almost scoring.
What we saw was an elite hockey team at actually scoring and generating chances in the second period. They didn't really give Latvia a chance to breathe. Merzlikens got pulled after that second period, I think solely because he just was out. He was exhausted from the work that he had. It's not that he had a poor performance, it's just
he was simply exhausted from how, how many shots he faced and how often he was in that crouch position, ready to stop pucks. If you show me that right away against Denmark, you can play like that for 60 minutes. Then, you know, you'd, the score should be pretty, pretty lopsided there. I expect it to be a little closer because we've seen Italy who, frankly, I don't know about you.
I didn't expect much out of, they've played two pretty competitive games here. Now, um, at one point, granted, they only had four shots, but it was a tie game, um, like midway through against the Swedes. Yep. And then what they do today, they, they, they, lost to Slovakia, beat them three to two. Yeah. So, I mean, and that's a close game, like a three to two game.

Chapter 4: What concerns arise from Team Sweden's chemistry and performance?
I think they plant their, you know, they trot out there and do La Miserable at, you know, at center ice by all means to put on a full production. That'd be a celebration for them.
Yeah.
But yeah, for the overall competition, it makes these games a lot easier to watch because at a certain point, I mean, we see this with hockey tournaments all the time where even at the state tournament level here in Minnesota, you get those maybe first round matchups where it's the one versus eight and it's over. not even eight minutes into the game.
And you're just like, well, we, we have to sit here and watch this until the final buzzer. You feel bad for one side. Cause there's not much that they can do. And in this, this is like, that's in front of the state, you know, people in Montana don't really care about.
This is the Olympics where the, with the world is watching you just get your teeth kicked in by Sidney Crosby, Nathan McKinnon dancing all over you. So we'll, We'll see about that, but it's been pretty entertaining so far to watch these arguably more competitive games than we've had in the past.
I just love when it's four games. They start central time, 5.30 in the morning. Then I think you get a 9.40 game. And then my favorite part is the 2 o'clock game, the 2.10 game, and that's it. So like, but it's, it's fun to watch. I'm still concerned about guys being hurt, I guess. So Jets defenseman, Josh Morrissey, who's really good, left the Canadian game because of injury yesterday.
I think Mikola for Finland blocked a shot today and he left and he did exactly what you hate, which is he turned sideways and it hit. Yep. And it hit the inside of that padding there instead of it being straight on to a shin pad that, That shin pad turns into sort of a soft cushion there, right? Yeah. And so it hit the inside of that. But anyway, so far, so good. Again, the U.S. plays Denmark.
We will continue on Saturday. We will continue to do these shows. I'm not sure exactly about what time because I'm going to have to be at the golf show on Saturday. But we will carve out some time to do a show after that game. And then... the U S concludes the pool play portion of the tournament in his group on Sunday against Germany. So plenty more to come from Judd's hockey show. He's AJ.
I'm the sports dad, Judd, and we will talk to you later.
