Kim Komando Daily Tech Update

Why I don't trust ChatGPT with my wallet

Chapter 1: Why should we be cautious about ChatGPT making purchases?

0.031 - 15.846

Yesterday, OpenAI, the owners of ChatGPT, decided to back away from ambitious plans to convince us all to book our flights, hotels, rental cars, and in fact, make virtually all of our purchases directly through the AI. But now they have another plan. It's even worse.

0

15.826 - 33.106

In ChatGPT's latest idea, you'll still buy literally everything through it, but the AI will then push all your purchases into third-party apps. Here's the problem. Since its latest update, ChatGPT is horrible. Instead of factual answers, it's more likely to shoot from the hip, to throw out a quick answer. Some are right, many wrong.

0

33.287 - 56.316

Confront it, and it's going to apologize and find the correct answer. But since I can't trust it with simple questions, why would I, or anyone else, trust it to shop and find the best deal for me? Speaking of AI, you need to try out my free newsletter, splashofai.com. It's free, splashofai.com. At least two times a month, I bring the latest tech scoop to the Marc Aram Show.

0

56.676 - 64.468

We always cover the tech that impacts your life, and we always have a laugh or two doing it. So if you missed us live in Atlanta on WSB, don't worry.

Chapter 2: What are the recent updates about ChatGPT's performance?

64.709 - 85.219

We've got it right here for you. So let's dive right into the conversation. You've heard me talk a lot about consumer cellular, and there's a good reason. You can switch carriers, save money every month, and still get the same reliable coverage. Here's why I made the switch. Consumer cellular uses the same towers as the big carriers, so you're not sacrificing quality to pay less.

0

85.199 - 96.717

And when you call consumer cellular, you just don't get pushed to a robot or told to use an app. You speak with a real person, someone knowledgeable right here in the U.S. No bots, no scripts, no hassle.

0

Chapter 3: How does ChatGPT's accuracy affect consumer trust?

97.118 - 118.731

The best part, you don't pay extra to speak to a human being like some big carriers are doing now. So whether you make the switch online, over the phone, or in one of their stores, you'll always work with a real person. Make the switch today and get $25 off at ConsumerCellular.com. And if you're over 50, get one line of unlimited talk, text, and data for only $35.

0

119.952 - 140.428

Plus, get an additional $5 off for the first five months. That's ConsumerCellular.com. ConsumerCellular.com. One of my favorite conversations throughout the broadcast calendar, Kim Commando joining us live on The Mark Am Show. Good morning, Kim. Good morning, Mark. We're going to talk about unsubscribing from email. What do you think?

Chapter 4: What alternatives exist for safe online shopping?

141.129 - 162.118

Well, I was about to do this for selfish reasons. So a lot of times here on the Marc Aram show, there'll be a story that I want to cover. There was one a couple months ago, actually it was probably a year ago now, out of Tampa Bay. And I wanted to get access to the news article on the Tampa Bay Journal or whatever website. And you got to sign up and I sign up.

0

162.198 - 184.917

And so I get access to the article for 24 hours or whatever. And then they keep sending me emails every morning saying, hey, this is the big news in Tampa Bay. I really don't care anymore. I just wanted it for that one story. So selfish. And I hit unsubscribe, and it's happened with a bunch of newspapers in Dayton and in Miami. And the unsubscribe button, it's a placebo. It never works.

0

185.369 - 201.775

Well, you know, it's kind of like a hope and a prayer. You know, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But normally when you are at a legitimate organization, say a news organization like you mentioned, is that when you click unsubscribe, that it really should unsubscribe you.

0

201.755 - 223.273

The thing that you want to be careful of is that you don't unsubscribe from spam because when you get a spam message and you hit unsubscribe is that what it does is it says, hey, here's a live human being. Oh, my gosh. They they actually clicked. And so you will be put into another list and then your your email address will be sold over and over and over and over again.

0

223.253 - 240.394

But, you know, Gmail and Apple Mail and Outlook, if you can't unsubscribe by using their actual unsubscribe option, is that those mail programs, they actually show one near the top of the message right under the sender's name. And it'll actually do a better job because it is actually going through the mail providers.

241.355 - 266.215

The other thing that you can do is I don't know if you've ever tried the Gmail plus sign trick. Have you done that? No. Tell me about it. Let's say your email address is theincrediblehandsomemarkarum at gmail.com. And you want to maybe sign up for a coupon over at Walmart. So then you'd be theincrediblehandsomemarkarum on WSB.com. plus walmart at gmail.com.

Chapter 5: How can AI enhance our experience before a doctor's appointment?

266.235 - 283.166

And if you were trying to sign up for that Tampa Bay newsletter, be like your name plus Tampa Bay. See, the email will land in your normal inbox, but now when that address starts getting spammed, you know exactly who sold it, and then you can create a filter, and you can also delete that address, so then it just goes hasta la vista. Interesting. All right. So I just got this.

0

283.727 - 300.553

No, I don't want to unsubscribe. I'm trying to find something I want to unsubscribe from on my Gmail. By the way, am I wasting time clearing out my Gmail box? Do I have unlimited storage in my Gmail? You don't have unlimited, but it's going to take you a long time to get there. Okay. So don't worry about it. Okay.

0

300.573 - 319.839

Because I know sometimes, well, it's been a long time, but our company email, I'll get alerts to be like, hey, Jack Wagon, you better delete some of these. These emails, you're taking up too much of our server, so I don't need to be as digital. You can be. There are a lot of people who are OCD, and they really try to have this zero inbox rule.

0

319.959 - 334.015

I can tell you right now, I have over 2,000 unread messages in my inbox. It's ridiculous. But I will tell you, there's one thing that you do need to know. Now, if you signed up for a real newsletter, and you're over it, and You want to use the unsubscribe link at the bottom.

0

334.055 - 352.533

Do not hit spam, because when you mark a legitimate sender as spam, I don't know if a lot of people know this, but the system will actually boot you out permanently. I mean, there's no way back in. And we see that with my newsletter. Someone marks my newsletter as spam, and then they email me a week later saying, oh, Kim, how come you're not getting your newsletter anymore?

352.613 - 360.501

And they keep trying to subscribe, but it won't put them back on the list. I mean, we have to manually get them on the list, but it's just a pain in the neck.

360.616 - 385.999

very important so if you want make sure you don't hit that's very that's a lot of pressure don't hit unsubscribe to newsletters like him that you really want in your inbox uh deborah used ai this morning actually i used ai too i used grok to make a funny picture for the show uh but apparently ai can now be used before your next doctor's appointment explain please well this is really interesting uh the average doctor's appointment is can you guess how many minutes

387.346 - 403.887

Ooh, it's 29. Close, 18. 18, all right. 18 minutes. And so, you know, you drove there, you read an old copy of People magazine, you watched a fish tank for nine minutes, and then you get on that crinkly paper table. Okay, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

403.867 - 425.082

Well, studies also show that 40% to 80% of medical information given during these appointments is forgotten by the time anybody gets home. So what you want to do before your next doctor's appointment, open your favorite chatbot, GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, you name it. And number one is you always want to give your AI chatbot a role. So here you're going to say, be my patient advocate.

Chapter 6: What strategies can we use to prepare for medical consultations?

535.612 - 553.095

And so if you don't want your doc to be using AI, number one, you can say, are you using AI to record this appointment? And they are legally and HIPAA required to say yes or no. And if they are saying yes, that's where you can say, you know, can I look at the notes before it becomes part of my permanent record? Interesting.

0

553.135 - 573.387

Now, are they recording as I'm sitting there on the paper, you know, wearing the gown and the doctor's not in yet or the nurses? Are they recording me talking? About how wonderful you look in that gown? Is that something I need to worry about? No, normally it's when they actually enter the room. But you never know. You know, it's really wild. You never really know.

0

573.828 - 597.989

Yeah, someone's always listening. Kim, splashofai.com. That's my new AI newsletter. We have about 300,000 people already getting it. So I'm not going to be like the person who says, here are 50 different AI note-taking apps.

0

598.109 - 623.262

And you're like, oh, why? Too much. Yeah. So just once a week, a five-minute read, splashofai.com. And don't accidentally unsubscribe to splashofai.com because then you'll regret it. Kim, great stuff. I'm going to subscribe right now. Splashofai.com. It truly is the future. Kim, great stuff. Have a fantastic week, my friend. You too. Thanks, Mark. There you go.
