What did the hosts and rivals say about the pre‑competition injuries and preparation?
Fellas. Quite the battle. Quite the battle. So let's walk it back. We had some surprises. Um and I think there's some background stories more than likely. It looked like some of you guys were injured. Some of you guys didn't have the day you wanted. Some of you guys definitely did have the day you wanted. Uh so in terms of prep close. Addie, you had a phenomenal prep. We all seen uh the nine oh three. How were you feeling coming into this?
Um, feeling pretty good, man. Like I knew I'd obviously be strong enough, it's just kind of doing it. Um so that was kinda the main thing. But yeah, felt pretty good. And yourself, Joe?
Uh uh prep to remember, to say the least to be quite honest. Uh Of course you're confident I'm the world champ, ex world champ at this point, but uh I'm always gonna believe in myself that anything can happen on the day and I can still win, but I was not surprised with the outcome for sure.
Really? Okay.
Yeah.
Um like obviously you're not gonna tell the world ahead of time, like, hey, I'm not feeling great, so blah, blah, blah. But what were you dealing with?
Couple injuries, couple life scenarios. Paralifting had to take a back seat for a while. Um when I landed, first bench session, just destroyed my peck on two reds.
So I'm not gonna s somebody was saying somebody said something that was there for that session and said, like I I don't know what the hell you were trying to play it off at the time, but they're like, It looked like he was trying to play something off. Yeah.
So what happened there? I was just warming up. I was doing one red, then on to two reds, and on the way down I just felt something move from here down and That was it. I couldn't bench. I had to skip the session. Um bunch of ibuprofen, bunch of Tylenol. I was able to get some good workload in, but not enough to nearly like, you know, be healthy on the day. And surprisingly I didn't feel any pain with enough painkillers, but um I just the force output wasn't there. Like it my peck is like it feels like it's asleep right now, you know. So uh that's the that's the lift I needed and with the way my squat and dela felt in prep, I knew the Only way I could rival a prime attack was if my ben showed up. And then when that happened, I was like, Yeah, it's just that was the end of it right there.
So um previously, like the block before the quad went, my right quad, uh happened on week three, and then we did the podcast the day after. And I was like, We'll see what happens on week four. If I have to pull back, I'll pull back. You can go back and listen to it. Um, I wasn't expecting much. Surprisingly my deadlift wasn't as Affected where I did a 360 triple, but I couldn't squat that day. Bench was destroyed, no leg drive. And then I was basically trying to play catch up the entire time. And then the first I only had three blocks. First block destroyed. I couldn't hip adductor. Uh that was coming off the PA NATS prep as well. So that was that was messed up. I canceled my week four. Done. Yeah. Second uh second block, quad happened, done.
Landed here, peck happened, done. And then uh the entire I had some. background stuff happening in my life that I had to take a step back from powerlifting. I was missing sessions. I was confusing sessions which never happened in my life. I was doing different days, my mind wasn't there, sleep wasn't there. Um it kinda put powerlifting like in a back seat and I it put into perspective like what the sport meant and I just wasn't giving it my all. I know for sure I wasn't, so it is what it is. Um But we'll come back strong.
When when the day came Um were you just telling yourself like you never know. The taper gods can be generous.
Uh anything can happen on meat day, obviously. Like um I'm a man of faith. I knew I needed a miracle. I believe I believe in miracles. Uh I'm happy I just got to the platform feeling somewhat good enough, but the body just wasn't ready to lift on the day. But I wasn't gonna pull out, obviously. Uh if I can walk, I'm I'm showing up. I don't care what I'm gonna total. This is uh an opportunity that I can't miss.
