How did Kjell and Megan‑Li’s preparation go leading into the competition?
Kind of a big day, huh guys?
Yeah.
Did this, well, first off, let's back it up for a second. How did prep go leading into this? I'll throw this to you first, Show. How was your prep?
Brembo's actually pretty good. Um But of course I was at a higher uh body weight as usual. Uh was pretty good after until end of or middle of May or something. Then maybe we pushed too hard but that's like how it always is. And then it went a little down but I think that we we did enough to have a good day. So yeah.
And when it went down, was that because that's the end where the body weight has to come down as well?
It didn't really go that much down because I was around seventy three through the whole prep.
Mm-hmm.
And It was just too much. Probably in life and the training. So for sure.
You were seventy three for the majority of this prep?
Yeah.
Holy smokes.
Yeah.
I I thought you were keeping your body weight lower.
It is lower. Last time I was seventy eight or something. So this this is lower. Yeah, yeah, seventy three is fine.
Well, okay, good. So you cut how much of the cut is water?
Around four kilos. So I went down Started in like around May to go down, but like it felt okay. Uh I was on like eighteen hundred calories, sixteen hundred, that's that's fine. Um And um Then we were down to around seventy, close to the meat, and then just take rest of rest of it with water. So no problem.
And in terms of like injuries or anything nagging, how are you feeling?
There's always something nagging, right? What does normal feel like? Uh I don't know, man. Like I just stretch out my arm, it's like it's almost impossible now. Like, Oh wow, seriously. So I I need to have the painkillers on the heavy sessions just to get under the bar. Just to have the thumb under the bar. I think if people just saw like how How crap my body actually is training in my basement, they would just be laughing or crying.
They would have it the other sixty sixes might have been a little more oh my God, this might be the year. W were you thinking coming into this um Expectation wise, what were you thinking from your body then?
For me or from everyone else? F for yourself. For myself. I just wanted a good meat, many good lift and just a good feeling. Mm and I got that. So I'm I'm super happy. Even if if the total was down, it was better than the last worlds.
That's right.
Yeah. So that's just That's the most important for me.
And Megan, how about yourself? How was prep coming into this?
Uh prep was really good, I thought. It's my best prep yet. Um definitely ramped up as I got more into my peak. Um I didn't actually post my top lifts, so yeah, what I post on social media is like last warm-ups and sometimes second to last warm-ups. So that's yeah, not accurate at all. Um I sit really close to fifty-two's. I sit at fifty two and a half, so everything is really predictable. Mm. Um so yeah, my prep went perfectly. I didn't get injured, which has happened the la last year. I did five comps in six months. And so I had a niggle every single comp. And so Like it it was an injury but I trained through it, you know, so I count it more as a niggle. Um This time my goal with Worlds was it's mine to lose and so my goal was do not get injured.
So don't push too hard, you know? Uh so I was just taking the box with all my lifts. And then I ended the peak on a really good total. Um and then I got sick. Which I hate being that lifter that says, Oh I got sick, that's why I didn't perform. I mean I think you can hear it. Like I've had a fever all week. I lay in bed all day yesterday. Um Yeah, but uh today I was lying on the floor on the tiles 'cause I was so hot, still so feverish, uh so woozy. But you know what, I pulled it together and my coach who's like my partner as well, he was like, You know what, Megan, you train to be so frickin' strong that you don't have to be your strongest to win. Just do it. Just push through it.
And you said didn't perform? Yeah. You became a fucking world champion, man? Yeah.
We'll get to that.
We'll get to that. I underperformed, but I I ticked the biggest box. So yeah.
