Sarah, so much of our conversation this offseason, the buildup from the NFL draft, has really been surrounding the quarterback position. And while I think that's the more likely path that the Broncos do take, We always have to prepare for maybe the unexpected, right? Because in 2021, we all sat here and we thought that Denver was going to go quarterback when they were on the clock at ninth overall. They ended up going cornerback. And we're like, wait, did they butcher that? Did they mean to say cornerback or quarterback in that situation? Well, now we're going to focus on the scenario. What if the Broncos do not go quarterback with a 12th overall pick? What positions should they look at? I think we've got to start off here with one of the premier picks.

Yeah, the edge rusher position is really, I don't know, contentious, I guess, is a word to say among Broncos country. When you talk about this position group, obviously there's a lot of young guys there with promise and potential. We saw Nick Benito have a breakout year in 2023. We saw Jonathan Cooper really take a big step forward as a starter in this defense. And Baron Browning, I mean, we've been waiting for I don't know, a couple of years for kind of this breakout from him, but whenever he's on the field and healthy, it feels like he's a very impactful edge player. So there's this, this kind of tension between the Broncos needing this stud off the edge and having a couple of guys that they feel like they can really build around.
And I get the, the direction here, Cody, because look, the Broncos traded away in George Payton's second year. I think it was our 2021, 22, I think it was 2021 at the trade deadline. You trade away Von Miller. Then 2022, you trade away Bradley Chubb and your free agent acquisition. The guy who's supposed to be your stud off the edge right now, Randy Gregory. Well, that completely flopped. And so you're kind of back to square one in terms of getting that trade top edge rusher that you need to have in today's NFL consistently disrupts the opposing team's offense and their passing rhythm. And I think that's where maybe you find yourself in a position here at number 12 overall. You could be sitting in a scenario where you have the opportunity to take the best edge player in this class and
And that is a situation where, hey, do the Broncos go after like we've been talking about all this time? Do they just draft Bo Nix just because he's sitting there or Michael Penix just because he's sitting there? Or do you take a guy who might be top 15 on your overall board at a position, quite frankly, of of need right now?
I think it's an interesting question to ask, right? Because it's like, how, how do, how does Denver feel about their current address group? And I think with the emergence, Nick Benito broke out last year in a big way.
