It worked because that's the night heading into the weekend and we were both usually free. This particular week, though, she lets me know that Friday isn't going to work for her. Most of our date nights involved her coming over, us having a cozy meal together, and then watching movies all night.
But this week was going to be different. I wanted to take her to a nice restaurant, do more of an adult-style date. Now, this would be a surprise to her, but I had told her a week in advance that I was looking forward to our date night and that she should dress nicely for this one. At least a hint or two that something might be different. I called the restaurant we had reservations for and changed them from Friday to Saturday. Done. Well, just about an hour before that date, she texts me saying that she's not going to make it tonight. She was going to see a movie with a friend. I was honestly furious as I had already paid the pre-booking fee for the restaurant and I had given her advance notice. So you can imagine my further surprise when I called to find her phone off.
I then called her best friend and he too had no idea what was happening. I'm finally able to make contact with her the next morning. She argues with me and tells me that I should have just told her that I was planning to take her to a restaurant, but I'm not going for that. Well, after about an hour of arguing, she finally admits that she can see that she was wrong for what she did. She apologized, I accepted. Although I think that talk took a lot out of us that day, so we decided to take a little bit of a break, give each other the day in order to clear any bad feelings. Well, as I look back now, I can pinpoint that as the moment that our relationship started to decline. Not because I did anything different.
I stayed the same, but she started to get more and more distant. Eventually, after three weeks of absolutely no intimacy, I confronted her, asking her what was up. She said that she didn't know, that she needed a week to think about things, and during that time, she wanted to be single for it. I told her I don't mind taking a break if that's what she needs, but I don't see why being single is necessary for it. She argued it's for her freedom. I realized it was for another guy. Now, I'm not into being a backup plan for anyone, so I ripped the cord and we broke up then and there. I was bummed, but if you want to go be with other people, I'm not going to stop you. I'm just not going to sit back and wait for you to come back to me.
I thought we ended things well, to be honest, until I learned that she spread lies about me cheating and being abusive towards her. Now, I'm thankful that the friend she spread those lies to wouldn't believe her, as we had all known each other for years at that point.
