Chapter 1: What are the legal implications of selling jailbroken fire sticks?

0.031 - 22.611 Matthew Cox

Comfort means different things to different people. For me, comfort means feeling safe, supported, and actually getting a good night's sleep. And that's why I use Avocado Green Mattress. Avocado uses certified organic materials like cotton, latex, and wool that let air move through the mattress. It keeps you cool in a natural way. And avocado mattresses are built to last.

22.711 - 35.932 Matthew Cox

A lot of cheap memory foam beds get soft or saggy after a few years. But avocado mattresses are handcrafted with strong natural materials. So they stay comfortable for a long time. They make it easy to try one.

Chapter 2: How did the investigation into fire stick sales begin?

36.072 - 53.37 Matthew Cox

You can use financing. They offer up to a one-year sleep trial. And the warranties give you peace of mind. If you want a mattress that's better for you and better for the planet, check them out. Head to avocadogreenmattresses.com today and look at their mattress and bedding sale. Avocado, dream of better.

Every time you sell a fire stick that's gel broke, it's a felony.

0

59.617 - 62.681 Unknown

Jailbroken, illegal, that doesn't match. Those two different things.

0

62.841 - 65.184 Luis Vasquez

Investigation's not over.

0

Chapter 3: What challenges did the guest face during the undercover operation?

65.504 - 66.766 Luis Vasquez

It's just beginning.

0

67.046 - 70.551 Unknown

Officers came. Secret microphones, secret cameras.

0

70.951 - 76.198 Luis Vasquez

Louis Vasquez, he also jailbreaks his own fire sticks.

0

76.738 - 99.225 Unknown

If somebody has so much power that they can shut down the media from asking questions, I have no shot. So in 2020, three years after living in Lakeland, I opened up a booth at a flea market. People would come up to the booth where I was at and say, hey, you know how to fix fire sticks? You know, the lady that was here before, she taught me how to do it or I bought it from her.

0

99.745 - 101.486 Unknown

Fire sticks, fire sticks, fire sticks, right?

Chapter 4: What role did Grady Judd play in the investigation?

101.947 - 104.229 Unknown

So I've always known about fire sticks.

0

104.249 - 105.41 Matthew Cox

What is a fire stick?

0

105.43 - 129.01 Unknown

So a fire stick specifically is an Amazon Fire TV device. It's probably six inches long. You plug it into your TV and then you're able to stream versus using a smart TV, which doesn't have as much computing power in the smart TV. A fire stick gives you that power. It's got more RAM, more speed. So people have been using them since 2016. That's when the first fire stick came out.

0

128.99 - 136.042 Unknown

Along with that, around 2016, when the first one came out, people began what's called jailbreaking the Fire Stick.

0

Chapter 5: What are the differences between legal and illegal streaming devices?

136.864 - 148.083 Unknown

And really, all that means is turning on a setting in the settings of the Fire Stick and allowing for unknown sources, allowing you to download things that are not available on the Amazon store.

0

148.384 - 150.407 Matthew Cox

So I can download it for free. I don't have to pay for it.

0

150.725 - 156.492 Unknown

Yeah, so you can stream it for free because that's another thing with the Fire Sticks is that you're not downloading anything.

0

157.073 - 160.477 Matthew Cox

But you're able to tie into the streaming network. Correct.

0

160.518 - 173.374 Unknown

Yeah, you're able to tie into the streaming network. If you are downloading movies and things like this, now you're crossing the line into copyright infringement and the whole FBI warning that you see at the beginning of the movies. Punishable by five years. Right.

Chapter 6: How did the guest's arrest affect their personal life?

173.354 - 194.568 Unknown

that's downloading okay but for for me as far as i was concerned i didn't have to do that there was apps that gave you free stuff free movies free local tv that were not illegal most of them were on the amazon store i didn't even have to sideload them where do you get a fire stick and like what are you paying for them So I would pay, I'd get them directly on Amazon or Best Buy or Target.

0

194.808 - 195.949 Matthew Cox

Same thing anybody else could do.

0

195.969 - 213.972 Unknown

Same thing anybody else can do. I'd get it. So with Amazon in these places, you can only get three a day. You can only get three fire sticks a day. And I'm guessing they have that limited. So people who are side loading and reselling them can't sell 10 a day or something, you know, which is stupid. You just go to Best Buy, get another three, Target, get another three.

0

Chapter 7: What was the outcome of the guest's legal battle?

214.292 - 216.755 Matthew Cox

Right. Well, they have to look like they're trying to limit it. Yeah.

0

216.916 - 236.628 Unknown

Right. So I switch over to selling the fire sticks. People start coming immediately. And I would ask people, like, what do you want to put on there? Like local news, which is what a majority of people wanted. This is, by the way, this flea market is International Market World in Auburndale, Florida. So this is a it's the biggest flea market in Polk County.

0

Chapter 8: How has the guest's experience shaped their views on technology and law?

237.709 - 259.363 Unknown

But it's, you know, it's mainly older people, not a jam packed place. Right. So most people that would come up and want a fire stick, what they wanted to do was reduce their cable bill or cut the cord completely. and then be able to still see their local channels, see what's going on in the news and that maybe sports. So they come to me and they say, Hey, can I, I want to see this.

0

259.483 - 280.189 Unknown

I want to see that. I want to see this. Okay. There's an app for that. There's an app for that. So just bring it, bring me your fire stick or I have these that are ready to go. I'd sell fire sticks for maybe $25 or $30 more than the listed price. So when I would buy them on Amazon and these other places, I'd buy Amazon 4K sticks. So they were the best ones out, the fastest ones out.

0

280.209 - 302.549 Unknown

I think they were $50 at the time. And I charge 80 for it. So it was like a $30 markup for doing the service. So I would remove a lot of the stuff that's in the Fire Stick already that slows it down. Just stuff that Amazon puts in there and then add whatever it is that they would customize it. You tell me what you want. You can hang out and watch me do it. There's no hiding. This is not a secret.

0

302.809 - 303.831 Matthew Cox

Yeah, it's just a service.

0

303.911 - 324.27 Unknown

It's just a service. You know, I'm providing. So you can sit here and watch people hang out with me as I'm doing it. And by the way, that later that my charge was not just doing this and reselling it, but showing other people how to do it so they could do it themselves and not have to come to me and pay me 20 bucks or whatever it is. So that was part of that later. It only took two weeks, Matt.

325.229 - 353.09 Unknown

So two weeks from October 1st, 2020 was when the first undercover officers came to the flea market in full undercover, secret microphones, secret cameras, and the whole thing. So I don't know if it had anything to do with me. I was brand new in the flea market. Other people had been there for years. So two weeks after I began doing this, this is when everything starts. I wasn't aware of it.

353.33 - 380.802 Unknown

It didn't come to light until December, late December 2020. So it was three months that they were investigating us. When the bus happened, the sheriff of Polk County, his name is Grady Judd. He's also known as America's Sheriff. Very popular dude. Liked in the community. Does good stuff. And I love him. Before this. This is the exception. I loved him before this. So...

382.199 - 404.439 Unknown

When the whole bus went down, the sheriff of Polk County put out a story that he went on the news. It was a whole press conference, 15 minutes long, our pictures. How this guy does his press conferences is he'll do a raid or they'll do a bus. His team will do a bus. And let's say they get three guys. They got three pictures ready to go. Right. So they get their press card.

404.459 - 429.402 Unknown

Hey, here's Louis Vasquez. This guy right here was selling fire sticks. And by the way, he was arrested 15 years ago for stealing candy from a store. You know, he just starts going in on you. Right. So during that press conference, one of his reasoning as to how this whole thing happened is a concerned, a concerned citizen went to the sheriff's office in October of 2020 and said,
