Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Boz -- Internal Medicine Doctor, Author, Mother, Wife, Teacher, & Storyteller.
Annette Bosworth, M.D., was born into a farming family in rural South Dakota, inheriting hard work and the expectation that all things are teachable. Throughout her medical training and career, she applied her inheritance to teach patients through storytelling and practical application of medical jargon. She has been featured on CNN, Time, U.S. News & World Report, Fox News, & more.
As an Assistant Professor and Internal Medicine Doctor, she helps students and patients combat chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes, depression, addiction, and autoimmune problems. Through the DOD Counter-terrorism, she teaches how to optimize brains & bodies with practical neuroscience. Her favorite way to teach is through storytelling.
Her debut book, ANYWAY YOU CAN, told the story of what happened when her 71-year-old mother, dying of cancer, asked, “Doc, What would you do?”

[18:20] There Are A Dozen Ways That You Can Stimulate Dopamine In The Brain
Stop saying “addictive personality.” Instead, say you have a passion!
Passion is an infusion of energy where you push it in a direction with a long-term reward.
The Department of Defense asked Dr. Boz to help teach leaders how to heal a brain.
In the human brain, there are a dozen ways to stimulate dopamine.
For instance, you can have dopamine pleasure from sex, exercise, and serving others.
When it comes to helping other people, it will be a long-term reward with abundant dopamine production.
[20:55] Improve Your Brain With This Trick Using Your Non-Dominant Hand
Looking to improve your brain? Use your non-dominant hand to write loops for three minutes. During this time, you cannot speak, and you cannot make noise.
When you make these loops, your breathing rate will slow down.
After making the loops for three minutes, you may feel relaxed and settled down. Other people will feel anxious.
This left-handed loop exercise is a primitive way to do meditation.
When a brain is chronically swollen, your emotional development cannot enhance.
[28:40] There Is No Greater Enemy To Brain Health Than Insulin
There is no greater enemy than insulin when it comes to brain health.
Insulin is trying to get glucose out of the bloodstream and into a storage place.
Insulin works hard to get sugar out of the bloodstream because it’s a toxin.
Your body will secrete so much insulin to keep glucose from killing you.
Chronic insulin production will increase your risk of cancer, autoimmune disorders, memory problems, and heart disease.
[38:15] The Reason You Shouldn’t Chew Gum Outside of Your Feeding Window
When you chew gum, the amount of insulin produced in your body is abundant.
Chewing is a way to deal with stress.
If you want to chew gum, only chew it during your eating window.
Chewing gum can create as much insulin as someone who is eating a pastry.
Don't chew outside those feeding hours if you’re trying to limit your eating window.
[43:25] The Reason You Should Choose Sardines Instead of A Protein Shake
A protein shake can be a great convenience if you are fit and not insulin resistant.
If you are trying to reverse insulin resistance, a protein shake is fighting the cause.
There are cheap, easy, and convenient foods.
Eat sardines if you need something convenient!
[48:00] Don’t Try and Build Muscle Mass If You Have Insulin Resistance
If you want to build muscle, make sure you lose weight first.
You should only build muscle if you are not insulin resistant.
Improving how you eat will be the best way to improve insulin resistance.
Once you are no longer insulin resistant, you will feel more inclined to exercise and build muscle.
[1:03:10] How To Uncouple The Mitochondria To Reverse Inflammation
Uncoupled mitochondria are the goal for reversing health problems.
The only way you can hack and be on a different journey of higher energy and uncouple mitochondria is through the fuel inside the mitochondria.
You can uncouple mitochondria by fasting, exercising, and even in the sauna.
Uncoupling mitochondria will help you reverse inflammation.
[1:14:20] You Should Eat A Fatty and Hearty Meal Early In The Day
The feeling of fullness will come from fat-based hormones that surge when you eat a fatty meal.
Get a surge of energy from a fatty meal earlier in the day.
The first meal of your day needs to be hearty, and it needs to keep you satiated.
Remember, when you eat fat, you will feel satiated.
