Chapter 1: Can you own multiple Amazon seller accounts simultaneously?
Can you own multiple Amazon seller central accounts all at the same time? The answer is a little bit more confusing than you might initially think it is. My name is Noah Wickham. I'm VP of sales marketing here at my Amazon guy. And this is a question that we actually get fairly frequently around whether or not people are allowed to own more than one seller central account.
And even Amazon who recently actually posted about this in their news talks about account health tips for multiple selling accounts. So let's read through it and kind of talk about the granularity of owning multiple accounts and when it makes sense to have more than one account and when it likely doesn't make sense to. So what they essentially say is know when you can have multiple accounts.
So first and foremost, you may open separate accounts when you have distinct brands with different storefront names. manufacture products for separate companies, or participate in our programs requiring separate accounts. For example, if you have registered one brand that sells soap and another that sells pet food, you can maintain two accounts to simplify management.
Then secondly, learn how policy issues affect related accounts. If there's a violation of our selling policies or seller code of conduct in one account, all your related accounts may be impacted. So let's talk about what they are basically saying here.
Chapter 2: When is it permissible to have separate Amazon seller accounts?
So the way is if you have brand a or company a set up and that company sells, let's say balloons, and then you have company B. And company B you're deciding to launch a brand new brand. And you're like, ah, it doesn't make sense because companies, a name is balloons for us. And then company B well, you're going to be selling coffee mugs.
And so you're going to make a company that is coffee mugs, USA, right? These are two very distinct types of products. And so you might not want to list them both under the same exact account. Now you can, you can absolutely set up under one account, two different brand registries and two different registered brands and sell both of your brands under one account.
Now, if your goal in the future is to potentially sell off one of these brands, it makes it really, really complicated to do that if you're planning on selling the account in its entirety alongside that. And so what I typically would recommend is setting up two distinct accounts. Now, how do you actually go about setting up two distinct accounts and what do you have to know?
When you're setting up any form of account on Amazon, you're going to have basically two very specific areas. Your first one is going to be your business information. So you can actually come over to the account info and go to your business information. You're going to have your business address.
Chapter 3: What business information is required for setting up multiple accounts?
You're going to have your legal entity. You're also under your tax information, going to have a specific EIN for each one of the two businesses. Now, when you're going through the actual setup, one of the misconceptions is that people don't know you can set up two different sellers, central accounts under the same exact person.
So I, as Noah Wickham can go ahead and actually set up two different sellers, central accounts. And I have done this in the past using my passport or my, uh, ID. on both of them. And I am the person who owns both of these accounts. Now, the big factor is that Amazon knows you are the person who owns both these.
What you cannot do is set up the balloons, uh, for us and the coffee mugs USA under the same legal entity, and then set up to seller central accounts under those same exact legal entity. So even Amazon says it here,
Looking specifically again at their multiple accounts where they say themselves that you do, in fact, have to have separate companies. So that's a big aspect within this. If you have maintained two accounts at any given time. But you have to have separate companies. So that's the big aspect with this.
Chapter 4: What are the legal entity rules for Amazon seller accounts?
So you do in fact need to have two LLCs.
You need to have two EINs, but you can be the beneficial owner of both companies and you can be the beneficial owner on both selling accounts at the same time. So long as all of the business information, the legal entity and the EIN are different from each other. So it's actually fairly simplistic to set up that way.
And something I recommend again, for anyone who's going to have multiple brands with different naming conventions, different products. Now, a couple of caveats here. One thing that you do not want to do is let's say that at some point in time, uh, we are selling, uh, balloons again, right?
And you can see here we have on Amazon a bunch of different balloons and whatnot, a bunch of different options. Now, something you are not able to do is you are not able to set up two different companies and two different selling accounts that sell, let's say, and they both sell this balloon right here.
Because if you sell the same exact product on two different accounts at the same time, that breaks Amazon's seller code of conduct, because they look at that as basically being anti-competitive. You get more access and more share to the buy box.
And this is especially apparent for people who do resale or wholesale, because can you imagine if you're selling or 10 different people are selling the same product at the same time, all at the same price, but then one of those people owns five of the accounts. and they get essentially five X, the amount of buy box as everyone else.
So only if you are going to be selling different products and different brands, can you, at any point in time, set up two different distinct seller centrals and sell them.

Chapter 5: What risks are associated with selling the same product on multiple accounts?
If you're planning on selling the same exact product on two different accounts, I would not because you will get banned near immediately because Amazon will be able to track that back to you and know that you are essentially the one who is doing all. this. So if you are planning on setting up another brand in the near future, I would look at your current situation and see, does it make sense?
Are you planning on exiting either of those brands? Do you want to sell those brands together in the future for even higher payout? Or are you just looking to try and start something up new that you want to add? And it doesn't make sense because of your current brand name.
All of these are completely valid reasons, but the biggest aspect here that I would encourage you to look at is understanding whether or not it makes complete business sense at the end of the day to have two different companies that you have to do two different sets of taxes for compared to just one company with a variety of different products under one brand name.
