What memories does Geoffrey share about his childhood trips to the mountains?

Geoffrey Austin Newland 0:19
Hello Jeffrey here, and welcome back to Nightfalls. First, I wanted to let you know that our trilogy of Nightfalls audiobooks, Discovering Nightfalls, The Magic of Nightfalls, and Dreaming of Nightfalls, are now available across Spotify and Audible. Each book brings together almost eight hours of uninterrupted stories from the falls, designed to help you relax, unwind, And drift off at your own pace. You can find them wherever you get your audiobooks. And if you do listen, we'd be so grateful for a review. It really helps us and helps more listeners find nightfalls. When I was a child, my dad used to take me to the mountains for holidays. I have such fond memories of cycling by rivers, walking mountain paths, swimming in stunning lakes, and being humbled and calmed by the landscape.

I also remember having a crazy amount of pizza, schnitzel, and spaghetti bolognese. Happy days. In tonight's story, we're heading back to the falls. As I tell you of the day Otto and I boarded a cozy train bound for the mountains of Switzerland. Along the way, we traveled through ancient landscapes, revisited a treasured memory, and discovered that some journeys stay with us forever. Before we begin, here's the quick ad break that keeps this free content possible. To go ad free, subscribe via the link in the show notes. Here on Nightfalls, we know how helpful an immersive bedtime story can be when your mind needs somewhere else to go. But perhaps there are nights when you need something a little different.

A story with less plot to follow, fewer characters to connect with, and nothing much to keep track of at all. That's exactly what Catherine Nikolai offers on her podcast: Nothing Much Happens. Each episode is a cozy, calming bedtime. Time story where, as the name suggests, nothing much happens. Catherine uses soothing narration, repetition, and comforting sensory details to give a busy mind somewhere quiet to rest. Millions of listeners around the world turn to nothing much happens to quiet their thoughts and make the journey into sleep feel a little easier. So if you love our stories here but are curious about a different kind of Bedtime listening, you might like to give it a try. You can listen to Nothing Much Happens wherever you get your podcasts, episodes every Monday and Thursday.

Alright, now back to Nightfalls. I've always enjoyed the somewhat humble act of walking. Even before I discovered the impressive web of trails that threaded through nightfalls, These trusty paths often revealed stunning vistas of the lake or scenic views from up into the mountains. Indeed, padding around nightfalls in these paths with my friends was always such a joy. We took delight in the rich scent of pine needles as they rustled beneath our feet. And I didn't think I'd ever become tired of watching the dappled light through the trees. Sharing tales with Divani or Wanda as we hiked onwards. Though I love to walk with my friends across the mysterious but always benevolent terrain of the falls, Occasionally I enjoyed a solitary walk.

Though that day I wasn't really alone. I was going for a walk with my trusty companion Otto by my side. Frankly, I was no match for the excitable Schnauzer, who could run for miles without showing a dot of fatigue.
