Chapter 1: Should I keep training during the holidays?
What's going on guys? Hello and welcome to a brand new episode of No BS Fitness. I am Josh, he is Jesse. You can find me on Instagram at JackedFTS. You can find Jesse on Instagram at Thrive Performance Fitness. And of course you can find the podcast there at No BS Fitness Podcast. Rockin' around the Christmas tree. Why aren't you rocking?
You're just standing there. I don't know the words. Come on, man. We weren't allowed to sing Christmas music as children. Why not? It was unbecoming. Did Mama LaRue not allow it? No, no. Purely just church hymns. That was it. Church hymns and no Tylenol. No Tylenol.
Or too much Tylenol. I don't know yet. All right. Christmas is... Almost here. Almost here. A couple days away, technically. As we drop this on Sunday. Are you ready?
I'm about as ready as I am most Christmases by this time.
So you're going to be after work on Wednesday. You're going to be running out to the stores.
Getting a whole whack of gift cards.
Wow, you're one of those guys, eh?
Not much thought. It's not that it's not much thought. It's just like, I find that like one point it becomes, you just like have to get stuff for the sake of getting stuff. And then you're trying to wrap your brain around like, you know, what is this one gift? Like I, yeah. I mean, we've toned it down quite a bit over the years, which I kind of like. Um, Yeah. Yeah. Honestly, man.
Like I have a couple of things I should say. I have a couple of things that like that I need to get stuff for people that have like said something. And I just like picked up one. I'm like, OK, perfect. I was like that I can get. But there will there will likely be some gift card action. Yeah.

Chapter 2: How can I combat overeating during the holidays?
Honestly, like I just it sounds super corny, but the older I've gotten and like my dad says it right, like. Anything we need, we have. And anything I want, I can't afford. I want a brand new Toyota Tacoma, but I don't have $80,000 to spend on a brand new truck. So the good old Honda CR-V has got to do me well. But honestly, I'm not a big good at receiving gifts. I don't really like it.
Christmas has become like... So commercial, man. Well, yeah, I mean, I don't want to be that guy, but I much prefer sitting around and having a drink and dinner or snacks with friends and family than I do with, yeah, come on.
I see you rolling your eyes across the table.
That's fine. That's great. But it's the truth. I just, it's, I don't, I don't need any, I don't really frigging want anything, right? I just want, I'd much rather spend time with my friends and the family that I want to spend time with.
Yeah.
Not the family that I don't want to spend time with. They can go get bent. I think we're going to have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas this year though. I really do.
Okay. That's, that's, that's, I seem excited about that one.
I am. I think I'm most excited about just a couple of days off, like just doing nothing. Yeah. Um, which really won't be nothing, but I'm also incredibly pumped for how sick I'm going to get.
Yeah.

Chapter 3: What are some fitness gift ideas under $100?
I'm waiting for you. But I've prepped this year. I've got all kinds of orange juice. And NyQuil and DayQuil in my cupboards. I ain't letting this win. Do you think the orange juice does anything? Psychologically, abso-freaking-lutely.
Okay, yeah.
Does it actually do anything physically?
I don't think it does one iota. I just want something like a hot beverage. I don't, I can't, I don't, I don't. Yeah, when I'm sick, especially if I have a sore throat, I just want a hot beverage.
Oh, I hate orange juice with pulp. But you give me all, you give me all of the pulp. When I'm coming down with something, I swear to God my brain thinks that it is like the wonder drug to get rid of any sickness. I mean, I shit you not. And I bet you someone would agree with me on that one. Because I'm like, the vitamin C is doing something for me here, guys.
I knock on wood. I think I'm going to be fine. Because I was sick like – well, I feel good now, but like –
whatever was going around town i got it for a solid week and a half and then i'm feeling pretty good now so i think i think i'm i think i'm gonna really just have fun this christmas season can you can you knock on on that again man your head really is hollow it is yeah uh maybe christmas perhaps means a little bit more this year Uh, yeah, yeah, it certainly does.
Um, so we, Oh, well, I was going to say, yeah, I mean, I know it's not technically Christmas, but I mean, I guess we did get a Christmas miracle.
Well, I think, I think, are you talking about what I think you're talking about?

Chapter 4: How do I maintain my workout routine during festive breaks?
I also love the amount of prep you do with people's names and then still proceed to fuck them up. So, Mortez? Well, I think you've said Mortees and Mortez. I think it's... Isn't it... It's Christian. Yeah, that one's easy. Isn't it... How do you have this spelled? Moritz? I think it's Moritz. Moritz. Sorry, Moritz. I screwed your name up.
But look it. You got me back for at least two more events.
Yeah, well, one's not yours. The other one's a local club, but whatever.
Yeah. Man, we talk about this goddamn High Rocks cult so freaking much on this podcast. It's so cheesy, but I love it. Some of like... I don't want to say our least downloaded because we've been pretty fortunate to have some good downloads. But the ones that don't perform nearly as well are some of the High Rocks ones.
Oh, really? Yeah. Well, I mean, I could sort of... I mean, maybe like the breakdown ones. Oh, yeah.
It's like, man, it's culty as hell. I'm sorry. But we talked about it in our official High Rocks recap from Toronto. Like... Man will be man and we got to run and be tough. Shut the fuck up. Just let me run this stupid shit and have some fun with my buddy. Like Christ almighty. But I think we just – we need to get this out there so that we can become the official like –
podcast host yeah of high rocks and maybe we can like promote it through here and maybe grease our palms i think we're definitely the unofficial christian and moritz yeah if you're listening again because i know you are um come on let's uh hook hook hook your boys up
As my voice cracks like a 12-year-old boy. Yeah, getting tickets was a squirrely process today.
Well, we had a little bit of a blip. And then we had to figure a few things out. And we got them all figured out. Yeah. A couple people. I think there's only about two. I think we have three. Well, yeah, two plus kind of someone I'm trying to get in. Two from our Saturday workout group, which we're going to do our damnedest to get them in.

Chapter 5: What strategies can help manage holiday food temptations?
um yeah no it'll be uh it'll be good i'm yeah i'm i'm pretty stoked i like running these right now so it's just kind of like my jam yeah yeah i i i had this like not epiphany but i was super pissed off about me not even trying to run uh with emily and uh that that that chapped my ass big time so you're like yeah You're like, dude, sign up for the half one. Yeah.
Because it's half the running again, but it's also half the stations, right? Not half the stations, but half the distance in the stations. So I think you, I say about 50 minutes. You said 45. I think that's pushing it.
Well, I think that what, yeah. I mean, like, again, it's like, I think that's a better target for you to do. 50? 45.
it might be but like jesus christ i'm very untrained at the moment yeah i mean i just i just came out of retirement i haven't been training one week to retirement one week can do damage to the body okay you got time you got what is it seven weeks out that's tons of time i mean i'm realistically not going to start training till january start training yeah yeah for sure like i'm gonna i'm gonna do a couple runs probably over the uh
I want to say Christmas break, but it's like three days. So you're basically going to stop training over the holidays then?
I don't. I don't know if I will fully stop training, but touche. Touche. Yeah, I will continue, just not at the rate I normally train. Okay. Which is a very, very good segue, Jesse. It's not a segue, though, I think, if you say it. Yeah, I know, but it's funnier when I do say it. Right, right. I think it's like...
Because all the podcasters that I listen to, they always, like, try to transition into a question. And I'm like, that is the worst, corniest transition I've ever fucking heard. So, like, when we do it, I like to just call it out. Because I know somebody's out there like, oh, these freaking douchebags again are, like, trying to transition into a question.
I actually, like, don't. I think the transition is overrated. I'm just going to say it now. I actually think the transition is overrated. Just jump right in? Yeah, I mean, sometimes it does segue nicely. But other times it's like, okay, cool. Here's the first topic.
Yeah.

Chapter 6: How can I enjoy holiday meals without guilt?
So, first one. Should I keep training over the holidays?
Yeah. Well, you know what? I... Most of the time, I think, and rightfully so, people have been working hard. I think most people have earned a little bit of rest or at least a modified, you know, workout schedule over the holidays. You know, this might change a little bit. I find – so with some clients who –
who just like are in a routine and they need to like keep that routine, they're going to maintain their training over the holidays and there's zero issue with that at all. I usually kind of take a little bit of a break myself, but I'm actually going to stay pretty consistent with training over the holidays just because I, it's just,
man, I don't know, I just find it's like harder and harder that like you get off the rails and then getting back on again just becomes more difficult. But that being said, I think for most people, You know, you can definitely reduce your workload.
Like if you're training three times a week and then, you know, you got Christmas, you got the weekend, you're going to spend time with friends and family, all that kind of stuff. You know, get workouts in when you can. You can mix things up a little bit too. But yeah, I think unless you're training for a dedicated workout,
like if you have like a competition coming up or you have like some pretty aggressive targets that you're trying to hit, then I would just keep, you know, motoring through.
But I think if like you are stressing more about maintaining your training for like one to two weeks over the holidays and it's causing you more grief than you're really going to get out of that, then I honestly would not stress about it. But that being said, like I do think for a lot of people and you know, and myself included, I'm definitely going to overindulge.
Um, but I do find like the next day going in and just doing a light workout. It doesn't have to be anything crazy. It could be a job, could be just a little bit of weights or something. I really find that that helps kind of reset me mentally in terms of like, yeah, okay. I just ate like 7,000 calories yesterday. Um, but now I'm kind of like back on track.
Um, but honestly, for most people, I just, I really wouldn't frigging stress about it. You know, if you, if you are worried, you're going to fall off the rails, stay consistent, you know, get in, maybe modify the workload a little bit or modify the days.

Chapter 7: What are the benefits of giving fitness-related gifts?
But yeah, I just, I think I'm gonna just kind of stay on it and just, and keep at it. Like I won't work out as much as I normally do. Um, but I definitely get a few good workouts in there because I don't know if you get this, but after kind of like the Christmas boxing day, like, you know, super calorie overload, man, that third day, the workouts feel frigging great.
You know, you sleep in, you just ate a whole ton of food. Like my workouts feel pretty good for like a couple of days before you're back into the routine. But yeah, Yeah, no, I was going to say, if you want to take two weeks off and just decompress and unwind, two weeks is not going to derail any of your progress.
This is not me shit-talking you, so don't take it as such. But that is very much like an elite athlete versus kind of like an average gym-goer. Yeah. Like you and Allison, right? She's got that mindset of like, I have to do this. This keeps me on track. And that just keeps her on the straight and narrow. Where you're like, I'm gas. I just want to chill, right? And there's...
Neither of those are right. Neither of those are wrong. It's just, that's what works for that person. A hundred percent. Right. So.
Yeah, neither. Yeah. Like there is no right or wrong answer with this question for sure.
And anybody who tells you, no, you have to stay super consistent and do all your training on the day and your volume is going to be the same, your add weight, tell them to go fuck themselves. Yeah.
And again, if you want to do that, there is nothing wrong with that. Like there's zero issue with just maintaining your regular, I mean, we will get people like, I'm not going to be there, but people will go to the gym. Like we'll have a good number of people that will go to the gym on Christmas day, get their workout in. There's nothing wrong with that, you know?
they might you know if they're at 5 a.m or they might come in at you know noon or one after the kids have you know opened the presents and you know uh had breakfast cooking yeah totally when when i first started um with you at the facility um i went in a couple christmas mornings just to like make sure everything was good and clean up because nobody had been there right and um
I walked in and there's like 10 or 12 people in there. And I'm like, what are you guys doing here? Yeah. Well, Turkey's on. Gifts are open. Kids are playing with them. I just jumped out for half an hour workout. I'm like, fuck, that's sweet.

Chapter 8: How do holiday traditions influence our eating habits?
How do I combat eating too much over the holidays? I also like the, like, how do I combat? Like, it's like a... It's like karate. This is like a fight against, like, calories. It's like Mortal Kombat. Finish him! Man, I played so much of that on friggin' Sega Genesis.
Believe it or not, In the basement, I have that. Oh, do you?
Like the Sega?
Of course I do.
Really? Like the Genesis or is it like the Dreamcast? No, Genesis.
It was like when I was like... My parents, again... Didn't have much money growing up. They were able to like... Does it work?
It still fucking works. Oh, we got to play that over the holidays, man. It still works. Oh, get out of here.
I've got like the six pack. I've got the frigging Streets of Rage. I have like all... And they all still... You know how you say like, oh, nowadays you put in like a disc or it's just online downloaded. No, you got to like put the cartridge in, blow it out. Why is it working? You open up the... You blow in the game system. It's like... You can't do that with them now.
You'll freaking scratch something or break something. I'm like, I'm bashing it against the freaking wall. I'm like, oh yeah, put it back in. Works like a dream.
