Chapter 1: What are the homeschooling teacher scandals?

1.751 - 6.473 Andy

Nobody's listening, right?

0

15.908 - 16.408 Elizabeth

Hi, Andy.

0

16.488 - 17.128 Listener (Aaron)

Hello.

0

17.669 - 20.75 Elizabeth

I'm so excited to talk to you for an hour like no one's listening.

0

20.85 - 21.09 Listener (Aaron)

Yeah.

21.61 - 22.791 Elizabeth

Is anyone out there listening?

22.851 - 26.512 Listener (Aaron)

Yeah, this is from Lola over on Apple. Need your thoughts.

26.992 - 27.312 Elizabeth

Okay.

27.552 - 29.933 Listener (Aaron)

Firstly, my opinion is that your show's the best.

Chapter 2: What happened with the New Jersey drones?

135.45 - 139.194 Listener (Aaron)

If they're from a long line of teachers, though, is it grandma or grandpa?

0

140.211 - 142.133 Elizabeth

Oh, yeah, maybe. Maybe that's it.

0

142.293 - 144.054 Listener (Aaron)

So they, like, pass it along.

0

144.074 - 144.495 Elizabeth

Yeah.

0

144.715 - 149.699 Listener (Aaron)

Once one retires, the other generation can start working as a teacher.

149.879 - 175.828 Elizabeth

Here are a couple things I'll say. It's a complicated thing. And to each their own, no judgment. Sure. I guess if you're a teacher and you come from a long line of teachers and you think, I can teach my kid better than what's being offered, the offerings, if you will, but... And we're really lucky we have access to great public schools. I think that that's maybe not the case for everyone.

175.848 - 183.714 Elizabeth

I would be really nervous sending my kid to a public school in a place where... The same can't be said for all of Los Angeles.

183.794 - 189.518 Listener (Aaron)

We just happen to be lucky. We know other people that have had horrible experiences in the L.A. school system, right?

189.538 - 193.26 Elizabeth

Yeah, and we also know people who have had horrible experiences in private school systems.

Chapter 3: What is the claustrophobic nightmare about?

Chapter 4: Are some of A & E’s acquaintances actually aliens?

149.879 - 175.828 Elizabeth

Here are a couple things I'll say. It's a complicated thing. And to each their own, no judgment. Sure. Yeah, and we also know people who have had horrible experiences in private school systems.

0

193.34 - 193.801 Listener (Aaron)

Sure, yeah.

195.652 - 199.873 Elizabeth

I have such complicated thoughts about this. Can I start at like base one?

201.013 - 201.534 Listener (Aaron)

First base?

201.754 - 232.422 Elizabeth

First base. Mm-hmm. Is I think that public school, like a society supporting their public school system across the board and having consistency. Sure. in public schools and kind of is like the very basis of a democracy. And it's something and again, I'm just this is just my thoughts. I'm not trying to make anyone feel guilty or judgment like you do what is best for you.

233.102 - 254.831 Elizabeth

But there are a lot of people I know who are very politically active and very democratic. And and yet they it's the one kind of blind spot they have where they don't send their kids to public school. Yeah. And I think we're in a society where all children have access to the same education, ideally have access to nutritious food there.

Chapter 5: What was memorable about the child's Christmas performance?

Chapter 6: What did Andy experience at the post office?

0

291.054 - 307.408 Elizabeth

That's one thing. But I always get a little hesitant when I think about... kids who are homeschooled because it is a loophole for some parents to be neglectful. We know someone who was quote unquote homeschooled and literally was never

0

308.482 - 313.167 Listener (Aaron)

Oh, sure. Yeah. In some ways, there's extreme versions where it's like, yeah, they're not schooled at all.

0

313.207 - 330.445 Elizabeth

There's neglect. There's abuse happening. And there's no checks and balances with a school where there are teachers keeping tabs on kids and what's happening. The kids are learning certain things. I mean, this is happening now, unfortunately, in regular schools where like...

0

332.127 - 343.879 Elizabeth

You know, books are being banned and kids are only learning specific religious things that aren't real or, you know, I don't know. Yeah. Which I wonder if that could be the case with these teachers. Exactly.

343.899 - 350.085 Listener (Aaron)

I was just going to say, like, maybe they're some weird religion and they don't want their kids to learn about stuff that they shouldn't learn about.

350.265 - 371.48 Elizabeth

Right. Now, having said all of that, the kids I knew who were homeschooled. who came to our high school later, and actually one of my best friend's kids were homeschooled, they're always so smart. When it's done well, I feel like their intelligence is so ahead of the game.

372.221 - 373.802 Listener (Aaron)

What about style, though?

374.282 - 383.007 Elizabeth

Great style, but I think that there can be some social stuff that they're going to have to play catch up on.

Chapter 7: How does Box City compare to Costco and Target?

384.768 - 398.628 Elizabeth

And so that's another thing that's like, what are you learning in school that's beyond just algebra and Spanish, you know? So there was something else I was going to say, you know, in France.

0

399.029 - 399.169 Listener (Aaron)

Yeah.

0

400.023 - 402.686 Elizabeth

It's basically illegal to homeschool your kids.

0

402.766 - 404.648 Listener (Aaron)

It's incredibly hard. Right.

0

405.008 - 405.428 Elizabeth

So.

406.389 - 419.462 Listener (Aaron)

And they take a lot of, we've learned, a lot of pride in their, would you call it universal? Yeah, education system. Like they just take so much more pride than we do in ours. And ours is a state-based system as well, which makes it more difficult.

419.642 - 437.663 Elizabeth

Exactly. Yeah. The other thing, unfortunately, that I was thinking is if I were a teacher and I have to go to school every day being worried that a gunman is going to come in and shoot up the school, does that fear like cause me to keep my kids home?

437.683 - 441.145 Listener (Aaron)

Oh, I don't think that's coming into play for this.

441.245 - 441.665 Elizabeth

You don't?
