Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Giles Snyder. A federal judge in Oregon has temporarily blocked President Trump from sending National Guard troops to Portland. From Oregon Public Broadcasting, Joni Audenland reports.

But Judge Karen Emmerget, a Trump appointee, said in her ruling that protests had generally been peaceful since June, with fewer than 20 protesters on average. Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield celebrated the decision in a press conference and called it a healthy check on the president's power.
