What happened during the shooting incident at Brown University?
Authorities say two people have been killed and nine others are in critical but stable condition following a shooting at Brown University Saturday. Police say the suspect remains at large. NPR's Lydia Kalitri has more.
Providence police say the shooting took place around 4 p.m. outside the Barris and Hawley building, which houses the School of Engineering and Physics Department. School officials say final exams were taking place at the time. Deputy Police Chief Timothy O'Hara says authorities are searching for a suspect described as, quote, a male dressed in black.
We're utilizing every resource possible to find this suspect.
A shelter-in-place order remains active for the university and surrounding areas. Lydia Kalitri, NPR News.
The Israeli military says it's killed a senior Hamas commander. They say he was one of the architects of the October 7th attacks on Israel. The strike took place near Gaza City on Saturday. NPR's Hadil El-Sholchi has our reports.
The Israeli military said it has killed Ra'ed Saad, a Hamas senior official who Israel says was the second in command of the group's military wing. A video released by the Israeli military showed an airstrike on a vehicle they said Saad was riding in. Hamas did not confirm Saad's killing, but in a statement condemned an Israeli strike on what they called a civilian vehicle west of Gaza City. Hamas did not say who was in the vehicle. Saad's killing would be the highest-profile assassination of a Hamas leader by the Israeli military since a ceasefire deal was reached in October. He was a close ally of Azzedine al-Haddad, who took over Hamas's military wing after Israeli forces killed Mohamed Sinwar last May.

Ceasefire talks aimed at stopping the fighting in Ukraine resume on Sunday when U.S. and European officials meet with officials from Ukraine. The talks will take place over the next several days in Berlin. Russian forces, meanwhile, launched more strikes overnight targeting Ukrainian energy and port infrastructure. Officials say more than a million people are now without power there as temperatures remain around freezing. Heavy rain in the Pacific Northwest this past week has led to severe flooding in some areas. The Skagit River north of Seattle crested on Friday at the highest level ever recorded. Seattle is known for its rain, but Scott Greenstone of Ember Station KUOW says that doesn't account for the amount of damage from this most recent storm.
It's a common misconception. I think the Seattle area has many drizzly days, but is not so used to a big big dumping of water during these so-called atmospheric rivers that we are experiencing multiple of right now. So people around here, you know, many of them have never seen anything like this, even in 1990 when we set the previous records that were now breaking.
More rain, meanwhile, is in the forecast for the next few days, but right now officials are concerned about the potential for landslides. This is NPR News. The military government in Myanmar now says its forces launched an airstrike on a hospital in Rakhine State on Wednesday. Reports from the area say more than 30 people were killed, including patients, medical staff and children. Italian luxury brand Prada has signed an agreement with Indian shoe artisans to manufacture an iconic local sandal. As Shweta Desai reports, this comes after the fashion house sent models down a Milan runway wearing what looked like knockoffs.
The open-toe leather sandal, known as the Kolhapuri Chappal, is traditionally worn by farmers in rural western India. For years, the Kolhapuri Chappal has had a geographical indication tag which offers legal protection to its cultural heritage. So after Prada appeared to copy the sandal for Milan Fashion Week, Indian artisans filed a case in a state high court for violation of intellectual property.
