Off the rails from the U.S. Foster Payments Council.
Reed Luhtanen 0:30
I'm Reid Lutanen, Executive Director of the U.S. Faster Payments Council, and this is Off the Rails from the U.S. Faster Payments Council. This time I had the opportunity to catch up with Vishal Pasari. Vishal and I talked about the things we can really learn from other markets, about faster payments use cases, and the recently released Season 3 of Squid Game on Netflix. But first, the headlines. New deliverables are out on the FPC website. I mentioned these last time, but I wanted to spend a little more time highlighting the content. We have two from the Digital Assets Working Group. First, Stablecoins for Faster Payments is a new blog post aiming to provide an overview of how stablecoins can enable faster and more efficient payments with a focus on meaningful topics for banks and other financial services companies, including specific areas where financial services providers can plan for the use of stablecoins as a service offering.

When disasters such as hurricanes, wildfires, pandemics, or floods strike, timely financial aid is critical for survivors. However, in the United States, disaster relief payment systems, both public and private sector, are often slow, inefficient, and burdened by outdated processes. The latest paper from FPC's Digital Assets Working Group, U.S. Disaster Relief Payments Dangerously in Need of Innovation and FAST, explores how blockchain technology can transform disaster relief payments and proposes actionable recommendations. Finally, the FPC's cross-border workgroup has delivered a new resource. In today's fast-evolving financial ecosystem, ISO 20022 has emerged as a foundational standard driving greater efficiency, transparency, and innovation across global payments.
Reed Luhtanen 2:09
The evolution of global payment systems is transforming the way individuals and businesses move money across borders, and this paper highlights three compelling use cases impacted by instant payments innovation. As always, you can check those out at FasterPaymentsCouncil.org, go to the Knowledge Center tab, and click on Resources. We're thrilled to be hosting our members at the FPC Fall Member Meeting in Portland, Maine, September 3rd and 4th at the Westin Harbor View. The link to book hotel rooms and register for the conference is also live on the website. This is going to be a great event with a ton of local flair, including a session featuring local small businesses talking about their payments experiences and exploring how faster payments can help them, with Peter Davey of Payments.Advisory and me leading the way.
Reed Luhtanen 2:51
The very relevant to this audience at the Fall Member Meeting will be doing a live recording of the 100th episode of Off the Rails. It's going to be a special episode with an unexpected guest, new games, and a fun twist. Hopefully most of you will make arrangements to join us in Portland, but if not, you can find it here in September and really feel that FOMO. Okay, I think that's everything we needed to cover for the headlines. Let's get to that conversation with Vishal Pasari from Euronet.
Reed Luhtanen 3:35
All right. We're joined by Vishal Pasari from Euronet. Vishal, thanks for joining us.
Vishal Pasari 3:40
Thank you for having me on the show.
Reed Luhtanen 3:42
All right. And thanks for coming back on the show. This is your second time. So apparently it wasn't too painful the first time. And I'm glad to have you on because I feel like we as industry folks, we go mentally ditch to ditch a lot when it comes to various things in payments. But I think it's specifically this conversation around leveraging international experiences and you know on the one hand we have we tend to say oh well you know this works in brazil so let's just do it in the united states or this works in india so let's just do it here um you know maybe that's a bit naive and then we find ourselves saying things like well the us is just totally different and nothing from other countries applies here at all which is you know probably a bit myopic
Reed Luhtanen 4:19
So it seems to me that there's probably a balance somewhere in the middle, a lot of lessons to be learned from the successes of instant payments in international markets, but not all of them apply here in the US.
