What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Off the rails from the U.S. Faster Payments Council.
Hi, I'm Rhea Lutanen, Executive Director of the U.S. Fast Year Payments Council, and this is Off the Rails from the U.S. Fast Year Payments Council. Today's episode features frequent guest and pinch hitter Peter Tapling, who also happens to be the newly minted Vice Chair of the FPC's Board of Directors and Chair of our Operations Committee. Peter and I talked about stable coins, AI, agentic payments, QR codes, and the best places to grab a beer in Portland, Maine. But first, the headlines. We can't wait to see our members at the FPC Fall Member Meeting in Portland, Maine, September 3rd and 4th at the Westin Harbor View. The link to book hotel rooms and register for the conference is live on the website, and you can see the fantastic agenda we have lined up for you.
This is going to be a great event with a ton of local flair, including a session featuring local small business owners talking about their payments experiences and exploring how Faster Payments can help them with Peter Davey of Payments Jedi Advisory and me. And very relevant to this audience, at the Fall Member Meeting, we'll be doing a live recording of the 100th episode of Off the Rails. It'll be a special episode with an unexpected guest, new games, and a fun twist. Hopefully most of you will make arrangements to join us in Portland, but if not, you can find it here, as always, our first episode of September.
Who is Peter Tapling and why was he invited to this episode?
And speaking of the fall, I'm so excited to have FPC participating in events all over the country. You'll be able to find us as exhibitors and or speakers at Payments First in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in late August, then Westpay, Umacha, EPCOR, the Merchant Advisory Group, Chicago Payment Symposium. and AFP's annual conference, and probably a few more. Huge thank you to all these event hosts for including us in your events. And if you see us there, come by and say hi, introduce us to your friends and colleagues, and help us recruit new members. The membership for each of you is more valuable when the membership grows and the voices at the table are more diverse. Okay, I think that's all we needed for the headlines.
Let's get to that conversation with Peter Tapling of PTAP Advisory.
All right, we're joined by Peter Tapling, Managing Director at PTAP Advisory. Peter, thanks for joining us.
Reid, always a pleasure.
Yeah, and I really appreciate, especially this time, Peter stepped in to pinch hit last minute for us. We had a cancellation and so really appreciate you doing that, Peter, at the last minute. And I guess, you know, for anybody listening, if you're like, man, I'd really like to come on the show and answer nonsensical questions that Reid decides to ask me, just reach out to us and we'll figure out how to get you on the schedule or at least keep you on our pinch hitter list. So with that, Peter, there's just a ton.
Otherwise, you have to hear me again.
You might, you might. Your episodes are highly rated. So there's a ton of stuff happening right now, Peter. And I think first of all, my reaction is, you know, what happened to just taking stuff easy over the summer, right?
No kidding. No kidding, man. The headlines are coming so fast. I just have to sit inside the air conditioning and read. Right.
Anyway, one big thing that has happened is you, Peter Chaplin, were appointed vice chair of the Faster Payments Council's board of directors. So first, thank you for your leadership and congratulations on the appointment.
Well, thank you for your congratulations. And I'm honored to have been chosen by my peer board members. Clearly do believe in the mission of the Faster Payments Council and excited to see what we can do to help speed adoption of these various rails in the United States.
Yeah, so keeping the aperture zoomed way out, what are your thoughts generally on this moment in payments and the role FPC can play in advancing payments modernization?
The United States has chosen to be market driven, particularly in the adoption of instant payments.
