I'm Reed Lutanen, Executive Director of the U.S. Faster Payments Council, and this is Off the Rails from the U.S. Faster Payments Council. Today's episode is number 95 as we count down to episode 100 later this year. Today we got time with Karen Brown of CGI. Karen and I talk about mandates in other markets, what the U.S. market is doing well, and her love of photography and her dog Harry. But first, the headlines. New deliverables are out on the FPC website. The FPC board of directors earlier this week approved two new deliverables from our digital assets work group and a third deliverable from our cross-border work group. As always, you can check those out at fasterpaymentscouncil.org. Click on the knowledge center tab and then resources at the top of the page.

The board of directors also approved updated charters for the digital assets, education, awareness, and operational considerations work groups. All of these updated charters are focusing the work group efforts on market outcomes that will advance the usage and adoption of faster payments. We're thrilled to be hosting our members at the FPC Fall Member Meeting in Portland, Maine, September 3rd and 4th at the Westin Harbor View. The call for session proposals has closed, but you still have time. Please take a look at the link, register, get your hotel room booked. Make sure you join us there. It's going to be a really great time. Again, we have Kevin Miyamoto from Identify as our emcee. And very relevant to this audience in particular, at the Fall Member Meeting, we will be doing a live recording of the 100th episode of Off the Rails.

It'll be a special episode with an unexpected guest, new games, and a fun twist. Hopefully most of you will make the arrangements to join us in Portland to be there in person, but if not, you can of course find it here in September, and you'll really feel that FOMO for not having been there. Okay, I think that's everything we needed to cover for the headlines. Let's get to that conversation with Karen Brown from CGI.
Reed Luhtanen 2:35
Karen Brown from CGI, thank you so much for joining us.
Karen Brown 2:39
Thank you for welcoming me.
Reed Luhtanen 2:41
All right, let's jump right in. And how about we start off by getting an overview of CGI? What are you focused on specifically vis-a-vis faster payments, areas of expertise and so forth?
Karen Brown 2:54
So given a bit of a view of CGI, so CGI is a global company. We operate out in 40 countries and we have over 96,000 members across those 40 locations that we operate out on. We work in every industry from government all the way through to utilities, businesses, all the way through to banking. As part of that offering that we provide to our client base is we provide consultancy services, systems integrations and consulting services with regards to that and also products. So I work in the product side of CGI and I work under the banking sector and I'm responsible for all of our payment solutions with our go-to-markets. when we're looking at from a payments perspective, um, a number of initiatives we've been looking at is obviously besides the standard RTGS ACH applications, we've obviously been working in the fast payments world for a number of years, especially from, from a European and UK perspective.
Karen Brown 3:55
And obviously now we've come in with regards to the U S payment rails. And obviously next year we're going to be doing the Canadian RTR when that launches. So for our offering to our client base is always making sure that, um, We've got the right solution built into our product and that service we provide to our clients so that our clients are able to go forward with that specific service to their client base. So we work really hand in hand with our clients and also with industry in what do we build and when do we build that piece of functionality into our solution.
Reed Luhtanen 4:33
Got it. So I think we can probably go down two different directions with this conversation. First, obviously, from my perspective, at least, there's a ton of progress that's happening in the United States when it comes to adoption and usage of instant payments.
