And after the morning availability today, Oilers head coach Chris Knobloch sat down with us for a quick one-on-one. Chris, tonight the Seattle Kraken, the Edmonton Oilers on a three game winning streak. How much of that is just to do with a simplified process? Playing hard, simple, direct hockey, better defensively and getting some stops.
Yeah, I think simplicity is definitely a word to use. We're not making as many mistakes, getting more in the forecheck. It's a lot less sexy, but a lot more effective. And, you know, everyone's buying in and playing hard and we got to continue doing that.
You've switched up the lines here over the last week and a half or so. Put Vasily, put Coles in, and Matt Savoy. They're two of the real positive stories this year with the team, with Connor McDavid. Connor and the three, it says everything about Connor McDavid, that he had four goals, eight points, and went plus five in a week, and he didn't get any, you know, any love on the players of the week. I don't think Connor cares that much about that. But, you know, those other two guys are really growing over the course of this year, haven't they?
They have. They played well all season. We saw it with Bob Coulson last year and the contributions he made. Savoy, all season he's played really well, but he really took another step after the Olympic break, came back refreshed, a little more energy, and was able to make some more plays. And you can just see it with his confidence of his game right now, and he's playing really well.
Zach Hyman's up to 31 goals. And I don't know if people thought that was going to be possible, given, you know, having the significant wrist injury that he suffered last year in the playoff series in Dallas.
