The last two years have been awesome, and this, frankly, the fact that the team isn't playing, that are done after the first round, and maybe there's a tremendous opportunity for reflection and improvement, but it stinks because there was greater expectation out of what was supposed to be accomplished this year. Here's what we're going to roll with on Saturday.

Is it too simple to sit there and look at the last Canadian team standing? Because I will tell you, I'm going to be cheering for Montreal the rest of the way. I'd like to see a Canadian team win. I wish it was going to be the Edmonton Oilers. I don't think the Canadians can get past either Colorado or Minnesota.

Chapter 2: How did the Oilers' season end and what are the implications?

Stan Bowman went first, and we are going to start with Bowman's comment on, I found this to be really interesting, evaluating everyone in the offseason.
You know, when you don't have success, I think you have to kind of evaluate everything. So that goes for my staff, coaching staff, players. That's what we're going to do over the next little bit. Like it's only been 36 hours since we finished. And I think it's, you know, it's my job to I'm sure people will evaluate me as well. And that's that's the way it goes in this business.
It's a results business and, you know, you have to see other things you can improve on and, you know, try to, You have impressions when the team doesn't succeed. Sometimes those are right. Sometimes they're not right.
So what you don't want to do is make quick decisions without really, you know, part of it is we want to talk to the players, talk to the coaches, get their views, talk to my staff, and then kind of look at,
what actually happened and like i said we have impressions on why we didn't succeed but you want to make sure that that's actually lining up with what actually happened so um today is not a day for making announcements like on anything whether about players or any types of things like that that's going to come in time um i think you know here to talk about our season and answer your questions but i don't have any announcements
One of the topics, and look, I'm going to cut to the chase here. I don't think the coach got the most out of the players this season. And I think Chris Knobloch would acknowledge that as well. You've got to find a way to get more forwards involved. I think that's one of the things he did a good job of when he took over in November of 23.
And part of the reason why the Oilers had a 24-3 run is they had a deeper lineup. The Oilers were minus 31 in goal differential, five on five, when McDavid or Dreisaitl wasn't. Those guys were both not on the ice, minus 31. Here is Stan Bowman on improving support scoring.
We do have some young players that are going to do that. I mean, Matt Savoy, I think, is someone who wasn't really in a primary scoring role, and he ended up with 18 goals, right? And I think if you looked at his season up until the Olympic break, he was mostly on theā bottom of the lineup. Penalty killing, but mostly not really with offensive players.
