And welcome to Wednesday's Football Daily. I'm Phil Egan. Coming up today, Liverpool get past Spurs in the Carabao Cup, thanks to an absolute cracker from Dominic Sobasley. Teenager Max Dowman helps Arsenal get past Ipswich and more problems for Manchester United with a fifteen-year-old Academy player holding the club to ransom. But first Liverpool boss Andoni Iriolas praised the work ethic of his young players after a three-one win at Ham to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup last night. Goals from Alexis McAllister, Cody Gakpo and a cracker from Dominic Sabasai were the difference on the night at Anfield. Rio and Gamoa, James McConnell, Lewis Kumas and Treinoni all started, and Iriola says he only took them off in the second half out of necessity.
Try buscamping, Rio couldn't have run a lot more, uh McConnell Uh the same and when this happens is because you've given us what you got.
I don't know if uh we are able to make the this click uh Saturday playing like this and uh believe in ourselves, believe in our style of play. We win uh many games and we score many goals because the qualities of my players is very high.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he'll manage the minutes of teenager Max Dowman after he scored twice in the four two win away to Ipswich. Down's only the second sixteen year old to score two goals in the same game for a Premier League club. Wayne Rooney did it in the same competition in two thousand two for Everton. Arteta says he's a young player who still needs taken care of.
Yes, because he's sixteen years old and we need to be really cautious uh with that. We don't wanna stop him, we don't wanna put any brakes into him, we need to develop him and uh and we are full aware what he needs and um and he will have opportunities to play.
Elsewhere last night, Keith Andrews, Brentford side one two one away to Reading and the Dubliner says he fancies a cup run.
We'd certainly like to. Um, that's the plan. We'll we'll see who we get in the the next round and and we'll try and navigate our way through that. I think you're right. It last year we got to the quarters. We'd like to go for it in that issue, but but we gotta we gotta end the right opposite.
Fulham beat West Ham three two at the London Stadium. The third round action continues tonight, and Brighton boss Fabian Herzler's hint that he'll make changes for their trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. Goalkeeper Jason Steele will step in for Bartford Bruggan. Herzler says it's a chance for several players to show they have the mentality for the big occasion.
Have a lot of courage in possession, defending good in set pieces and do it for ninety minutes because um and then these kind of teams they have so much individual quality, they can beat you within one moment. Very important that we maintain the standards high. These are the things we we have to do and we need to have the right approach for for this game and hopefully we show tomorrow.
No Date United boss Michael Carrick will also make changes with Benjamin Sheshko and Andre Santas expected to play. One player who won't be part of the matchday squad is Academy prospect JJ Gabriel. The fifteen year old told the club yesterday he wanted his contract terminated so he could explore options elsewhere.
