Ciarán, your team got off to a brilliant start tonight and the whole first half was almost like there was no stop. It was every throw in, every corner kick, really, really fast and it paid dividends early on.
Yeah, look, I thought we started the game very well. I thought we could have only went two or three up. There weren't huge chances or anything like that, but we looked like the team in the ascendancy. We looked like we were at it. A couple of fine margins, kind of losing 50-50s in decision in our box, and to go into one down at half-time, you were kind of scratching your head. But yeah, we started well. The game was there for us. It's probably a bit really disappointing to come away with nothing.
What do you think happened throughout that first half to lead to the two Shellburns goals?
You're playing against a team with quality players. They have that capability. I think Ben has gone through two tackles there for their second goal. It's not like us. We win them. We hurt them the other way. That's the way we play. We probably came out the wrong side of a couple of duels. But yeah, look at failing to clear the ball in our penalty box on two occasions as well.
How did Ciaran Kilduff assess Dundalk's performance in the first half?
I think there was calls for a handball in there as well. We seemed adamant in it. I haven't seen it back yet. But I'd probably rather clear the ball and then give out about the handball instead of that. But I don't necessarily think that was the case either. I just think we didn't clear our lines on two occasions and the ball ended up in our net. And I think in the second half... Again, we huffed and puffed and we had some chances and we definitely looked at the team in the ascendancy. They had one shot on the tag which came from a failed clearance from Enda. Again, we limited it to very little at times but the chances came, they took them and we weren't able to capitalize on ours.
It seemed like a really physical match between the two teams. Is that something you kind of wanted your team to go out there and stand their ground tonight?
Yeah, well look, we play on an edge, do you know what I mean? The only problem you have there tonight is, I don't know how there was only six minutes added on, but the amount of stoppages and injuries. We had Mojawa come on and went down and their player Freitas up front got hurt for a while. There was a lot of subs. The game never really flowed. brilliantly in the second half and for only six minutes to be added on a lot of yellow cards and same referee has sent off our three of our players this year as well and you can see that you know when there's an edge in the game I don't know what the game seems to get away a little bit as well so there's a there's a lot of frustration in it but listen credit to Shelburne they took their chances when they can and yeah there was a physical edge to the game but two physical teams this is the highest level of football in the country and I would have expected nothing less.
The three teams above you win tonight. When I was talking to Shane Keegan in the commentary about the game, I felt like this is a big month for Dundalk. You've got the Loud Derby next week, you've got big games against Pats, you've got St. Moctez in the Cup. Do you feel like this could be a really crucial month in your season?
Maybe. I think they've all felt like that. I don't think we've had an easy month. When you're coming up into a division and you know you've gone up a level from the first division from last year, I think we've approached every month the same. We've lost two on the bounce, which hasn't happened too often for us this season. I think we'd won four out of five prior to last week. I felt we did enough there to get something out of the game.
