it's late night League of Ireland with myself, Shane Keegan. Well, that wasn't a bit of a night, was it? Late goals galore, games swinging to and fro. It was about as exciting a night's action as we could ask for. Let's have a quick rundown of the results. I will say I'm on my own again, certainly for the first half of the show. So the more callers we can get in, the better. I see Marty is going to dig me out straight away. Fair play to him. But let's just give a quick overview of what went on in the Premier and First Division in the League of Ireland tonight. Starting up north with Derry City with a 1-0 win upon the Galway United. Derry and bit of momentum now that's for sure massive game in dundalk dundalk two shelburne three don't hustle finally get that one song after first victory and in extremely dramatic circumstances speaking of dramatic bohemians to draw the one looked like it wasn't gonna come it really looked like james douglas taylor's miss was uh for douglas james taylor i should say his miss was going to potentially rob uh
challenge but uh they managed when it most mattered captain fantastic stepped forward to dust the boy delivers yet again shamrock rovers three waterford united two another absolutely crazy game water they think getting them ahead of sevens ahead of that game twice if i'm right certainly once i put shamrock rovers finding a way to come back and get the job done
in the first
division Good night for the Midlands teams. Athlone Town with a 3-0 win against Kerry as they make a late search for that last playoff spot. Bray Wanderers all but confirming their playoff status with a 2-0 victory to Treaty United. Cork City get back on form with a massive dispatching of UCD. A 5-1 win for them. UCD probably still going to Okay, you'd imagine overall, though. Finn Harps nil, Longford one. So as I said, just like Athlontown, Longford Town also delivering at this stage of the season and trying to ensure that they're in that playoff picture. Very big win for them. And maybe a somewhat surprising result. Wexford, who had been struggling for results, three Cove Ramblers who are in the playoff spots, but now look on their shoulders a little bit, won.
But we will start way back at that first result I called out. Derry City versus Galway United. A 1-0 win for Derry City. I saw them in the flesh myself on Monday night down in the RSC. And I have to say, I was impressed. I did see signs of improvements. And Marty, I assume those signs were there again tonight.
Hi Shane, yeah definitely. Good performance. Very tentative I suppose in the first half. And kind of got a bit of a break right on the stroke of half time with Duffy got free down the left, he crossed it in, there was a deflection, and O'Reilly was just in the right place at the right time to turn it home. And then in the second half, very comfortable. Galway did not for anything. I was very surprised at how poor they were.
What were the key results and highlights from tonight’s Premier and First Division matches?
I suppose they're leaving it for the semi-final,
maybe. I don't know if they can fall back on that as an excuse, but come here, a couple of talking points. One thing I would say is, look, because of Michael Duffy's form, which has been absolutely outstanding, to be fair to the man, He's kind of overshadowing everything else there. But, hell yeah. Monday night, I could not be more impressed by Adam O'Reilly. I thought he was absolutely brilliant for you Monday night. Another goal out of him tonight. He's shining through at this stage of the season, isn't he?
Absolutely, yeah. He's probably one of the... If you want to box the box midfielder, I don't think it gets much better. I think Ternan made the mistake of playing him as part of a double six position. which doesn't suit him to be that deep. He needs to be, he's at his very best when he's harrying people and breaking with the ball and carrying the ball.
