Alright, welcome along to another episode of the Green Scene, a slightly different scene today for myself, Matthew Brennan and David Wilson beside me. We are outside Dublin Airport, about to embark on a journey that will bring us to Pristina over in Kosovo for tomorrow night's UEFA Nations League. opener David it's gonna be a couple of days that is marred by a lot of stuff that's going on but tomorrow night will be a normal game of football as far as it goes despite all the stuff that's actually going on over in Kosovo as well that maybe has been lost in all of the other madness that's been going on.
Yeah, it's a strange time. Um I think Hammer Hogrimson and Darrow Shed are in their press conference kind of as we speak right now as well. So there's definitely gonna be more fallout from there and Stephen Doyle is there for us as well, so to be able to catch up on all your your press conference material as well. Um yeah, it's a strange time. Obviously we're off to to Kosovo now. Um I don't know if anyone's been following the news, but in Kosovo and in Pristina There's been um Um some protests on the streets this last five or six days after the um conviction of four Kosovan um politicians and uh member uh leaders of the Ko Kosovo Liberation Army and when Kosovo earned their independence. Um they've been convicted for war crimes and are in uh currently imprisoned in The Hague in the Netherlands.
So people haven't reacted well to that in Kosovo. So people are um in Australia. Um yeah, protesting uh and to to to bring those people uh back to back to Kosovo.
Why are Matthew and David traveling to Kosovo for the Nations League?
Um so yeah, it's a quite politically charged um nations league group in general, n n never mind just this game tomorrow night. Um And yeah, look, it's it's an interesting time and it's an an interesting time to go to Pristina as well. Um, but it's should be a fascinating thirty six, forty eight hours a uh between, you know, now and and when the game eventually kicks off tomorrow evening.
Yeah, for sure, one hundred percent. I was listening to lads on on the evening show last night and they were l kind of reflecting on on Prague, which seems like it was about two decades ago at this stage, but it was in fact only back in March and and and the hangover sort of sense that we did have and a hangover not from a alcohol sense but from a footballing sense an emotional high that we highs and lows of of that night and how keen we were to see the Republic of Ireland back out on the pitch in a competitive game to maybe the phrase is probably wrong but right some of the wrongs of that night and some of the things that that didn't go to plan and we haven't had the opportunity to see that until now and the Nations League was always going to be the first competitive outing that that the Republic of Ireland team had after that outside of of course the the friendlies that we had during the summer pre-world
a cop. Um and I I I kind of had a had a had an idea of what this would feel like back then, um, which obviously would have been clouded by the emotion, but it was absolutely nothing to what it is now and that everything else has taken priority over what's actually gonna be going on on the pitch and rightly so.
Yeah, i i it's a strange time like like I guess I said this last week, but you know, uh normally you're looking forward to an Ireland international window, you're looking forward to generally you're looking forward to Ireland playing. Um, you know, even if we weren't playing great football you're you're kind of excited to see what the team is like and what players are there and what's what's gonna happen and and you know you know, the Ireland the way it is have become Um I think they've grown espe like when we were in Prague uh we met a lot of people that were on their first away day.
