Now we're going to do something a little bit different on today's pod because the Ireland women's rugby team are gearing up for another season which kicks off this weekend with the WXV Global Series. Sunday, Tallis Stadium, Ireland take on the USA in the first of a new look tournament this year. That's followed by a game against Japan in Dexcom Stadium in Galway on Sunday week. They also have a test match against the Japanese at Virgin Media Park in Cork before heading down to South Africa at the end of October for a doubleheader against their South African counterparts in Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.
So very, very busy start to the season for Scott Beeman's side. Nine new caps in the squad for this window. Alma Atagaman, Jemima Adams-Verling, Sophie Barrett, Beth Buttermer, Olivia McKinley and Kate Jordan in the Fords. While three new uncapped backs, those are Katrina Finn, Lucia Lynn and Alana McInerney. Now last week I caught up with a number of Ireland players out at the High Performance Centre in Abbottstown. Lots of really great discussions here with the likes of Eve Higgins, Anna McGann, that uncapped player Beth Buttermer and Robin O'Connor who took the Six Nations by storm this year. But first up, here's just a snippet of my chat with Ireland captain Erin King. She got her first Leinster cap in the recent Interpro series.
And she explained what the atmosphere in camp has been like just a couple of weeks on from those Interpros.
We were actually in camp the week before the final. So that week was a little bit of, you know, we were definitely a bit of slagging going on and things like that. monster

i think there's just a flip that switches once you're in camp and you know we all remember why we do it and that is you know we're one team and um in ireland like we want to do well as an irish group and um the interprose is a stepping stone for that and um yeah i think once we're back in camp we all have that one main focus and um that all that common goal in mind that we want to do the best we can in the green jersey. So yeah, I think it definitely at the start, a little bit of a bit of slagging off and things like that. But once we're in camp, I think that that mindset shift and there's a great buzz to see what we can do together.
And what is the mindset shift heading into season four under Scott Beaman? Is there a grand theme that you want to work on?

Because it feels like the last couple of years have been very distinct building blocks. What's season four going to look like?
I think, like you said, definitely building blocks. I think we're getting better year on year and the performances show that and the results show that. We got our three home game wins and we came third in that Six Nations, which we hadn't done in a good few years. So yeah, I think just building on that, I think The standings going into this tournament, we are higher than the other teams and I think we'd be lying to ourselves if we weren't going out to win these five, four games coming up and putting on performances that we're proud of and getting crowds to the stadiums like we did in Six Nations and just continuing to grow our green wave in that regard and then leading into Six Nations, hopefully doing one up from what we did last year and maybe getting second place.
