What are the hosts’ opening banter and the sponsor plug at the start of the episode?
This hour of overdrive is powered by FanDuel. FanDuel, bringing you everything from the opening line to the final score.
Off and running, TSN 1050 on the TSN app, your home smart speaker, up on TSN 4, up on YouTube Live, Brian Hayes, CO Doug, Jeff O'Neill, Jamie Noodles, McClendon. What's going on? What's happening?
Good afternoon, Jamie, and to the person to your right, who I now call Harold Ballard the Snake. Oh, really? Yeah. Here's what happened. For five years straight, we've been in a survivor pool where we converse. It's like one of our buddy things to do. And then we send a text to this mutual guy that got us involved in it, and we say, these are the picks. This year, last week, this guy started a new thing where he found the login to this pool, cut me completely out of it, and then he doesn't even talk to me. So I'm out.
Defend yourself, Brian. You've already
blew two of our
picks anyway, so go
ahead
and have the
last one yourself.
I hate the Chargers so much. Why did you decide that
you were logging in to some
secret password? Here's what happened, okay? Brad, shout out, our boy, he is the one that kind of orchestrates the whole thing. We have been bothering him noodles for five years like children and sending him the pics for him to register. I do agree, kind of corny. So he, I think somewhat passive-aggressively, but it was pretty... It was pretty simple to figure out. I think it was a clear-cut message. He sent the details on how to log in, where our teams are, wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Basically, hey, guys, you do it yourselves.
Yes, you lazy idiots do it yourself, basically.
I went on to look at the site and was perusing, and I locked in a couple of teams. But here's why. Let me explain it. Now, I obviously got it wrong, right? Baker Mayfield is dead to me now. I'm done with the Bucs. The weather delay was a joke. The Browns beating the Bucs. I can't believe that. But the reasoning was sometimes if you don't, remember to put them in, you forget, right? So I just naturally put those in midweek when I was online. I'm like, I'm going to throw those in. Oh, let's
get that perfectly clear. There's been numerous weeks where Brad's like, if you guys don't get your pick in, you're done.
Right, exactly. So I put them in and then kind of forgot, and then I was watching them yesterday. I'm like, oh, man, I think we're on the bucks here. And I think we were on the Niners. So we got one ticket alive through two weeks, which is pathetic. But there were a lot of guys that went down yesterday. A lot of teams. There's a lot of wild and wacky stuff happening in the NFL. I was thinking about
just watching all of the highlights this morning. With the exception of... The Seahawks, maybe the Rams, the Niners. The Chiefs are always going to be in there. The Ravens always kind of get their name in there. The Bills. How many phony teams are in the NFL, man, that are just like... You know what I mean? Yeah, totally. And you know which one, the one you just talked about, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they're not doing any damage this year. No, they're not. They're not a real threat. They're not a real team. They're just in existence. They're in the NFL.
Yeah, they're seat fillers. Yes. They're seat fillers in every league. See, you guys are finally seeing the light. I have been saying that bluntly for 15 years, and both of you get squirmy and uncomfortable. Do you know how many teams in the NHL are seat fillers? Oh, my. Completely irrelevant teams.
I know, but it's just, hang on a sec.
It's
happening right now.
Because you guys have buddies. You guys have friends that work on those teams, so I'm not going to mention names.
No.
But
it's a reality. It happened a couple weeks ago. It's like NFL training camps are starting, and everyone's walking up to the training camp, and they're like, yeah, let's go. whatever team we're on, and then the season starts and you come to realize this is going to be about 10 teams max
that
are going to have a chance, and the rest of you are just in the league. That's right.
Yeah. That's right. They're for different reasons.
