What is the significance of Caleb Williams’ injury for the Bears?

Bryan Hayes 0:00
Being the devil, here he is Luke Wilson, our TSN NFL analyst.
Alanna Ubach 0:04
Yes, man What the hell?
Bryan Hayes 0:06
Gwynn Wilson
Alanna Ubach 0:07
is cooking.
Bryan Hayes 0:08
Pro athlete uh salute. Oh, with a little Milly vanilla. I like that. That was gruesome, man. That was tough to watch last night.
Luke Willson 0:17
Yeah, you know, and you feel for 'em. Uh especially when it's the same arm, kinda same injury. But that was I c I never like what I know some people think it's like, oh look at this injury and they kinda enjoy it. I gotta look away, man. It's gross.
Steve Greenblatt 0:32
Yeah.
Jamie McLennan 0:32
Parts be we g we can dive deep into the injury, but what I need is What was our thought process with the Jags going into Denver? Taking the jags. I wanna know what was behind the method to that madness 'cause it broke my heart parts it broke my heart when we can't do this to me, O
Luke Willson 0:53
dog. Listen.

How did the Bears’ medical staff assess the hamstring injury and its timeline?

Luke Willson 0:53
No, no, I'm not sure. I can't do that to me. You can't do that to me.
Jamie McLennan 0:56
I have full trust, but when that game was over, I was like, Man, we took the Jags and I questioned my own belief. I kinda liked it at the time, but give me your thought process.
Luke Willson 1:09
Uh I you know, it the first half I felt pretty good about it, but it's like, yeah, you look at Denver week one, they struggled, and then I'm like, Okay, Trevor Lawrence has played really well week one, he's coming along, these guys are ready to go and like be one of the top three, four teams in the AFC and in the first half I'm like, We're in good shape and then Trevor Lawrence turned into a pumpkin. Like I I couldn't get over it. It was like the old. It was like the old you know? It was tough.
Bryan Hayes 1:41
Yeah, it was tough. That was tough. And listen, we sometimes you pick winners, sometimes you pick losers. Al's brother and I, we picked a loser at some point this year, we were not happy with ourselves. But it's all good. And you guys got a chance to redeem yourselves tonight. Um on the injuries though, putting Williams uh or uh Daniels aside because I don't think Washington's much of a team. The Caleb Williams injury and the reaction to it is I hope this guy's not online. Like this is someone in the PR department of Chicago who's gotta say delete your account because he is getting roasted for being carted off the field. And tears in his eyes, giving it the thumbs up, it's all good to the crowd, and it sounds like he might play next week.
Bryan Hayes 2:28
Pulled hammy. And it's a pulled hammy. Um what do you make of the whole like this this is just all over Twitter and Instagram? Why are
Steve Greenblatt 2:39
we laughing? I mean, you're la
Jamie McLennan 2:40
we have no idea what this
Steve Greenblatt 2:41
is.
Jamie McLennan 2:42
We're laughing noodles because that reaction there is I know I shattered my leg in seven different places. My career could be in jeopardy, but prayers up and love up to the fans because I'll always love you guys. That's that typical reaction for that.
Bryan Hayes 2:58
Generally. You may not miss a snap, is the point.
Luke Willson 3:03
Uh I'd be shocked if he plays. If he plays this week, that's like the lightest hamstring of all time. Part of it is with the hamstrings, even if you're like ninety percent, they're so susceptible to like going again that they'll generally hold you back. So I don't know how truthful that report is, to be honest, but it is a bit strange, to say the least, where I I've had a hammy and I redid the same one like It it's a pretty the as far as injuries go, like you know right away. You know, uh if you do a knee, for example, I don't think many guys are like, that's my ACL, that's my MCL, or like that's my patella tendon. You know, you kinda like you're starting to get into the whole like what ligament is that?
Luke Willson 3:48
Where when you do the hamming it's like, well, that is my hamstring. Like there's not much else around there. Maybe if it's a high one, you can be like, was it my glute? Like you're not really worried about a ligament, so to speak. I I I and to kinda know like okay, it's a hammy which like uh worst case scenario uh you're looking at like six weeks generally. That'd be like a tough longer hammy. I guess maybe if you pulled it right off the bone it could be worse. I I don't know, but to have the tears towel over the head, carted off and the thumb up is an aggressive combination.
