Chapter 2: How is Alejandro Kirk's recovery progressing for the Blue Jays?
Yes, Addison Barger coming back, and others will help, but Kirk, man, I cannot overstate his importance to this team. I always say that for people at home, however important you think Alejandro Kirk is, double it and triple it. I promise you it's that much to this team, and man, they have missed him. It's been a long, old time from that broken thumb, but they need him back.
Well, there's been so much turnover, you know, to the daily lineup compared to where it was in September and October of last year. And a lot of that is injuries, clearly, with Kirk out and with Barger out. But some of it is based on play. You know, David Schneider was sent down to the minors with Nathan Lucas returning.
And I'm curious, you know, once Kirk returns, what does that mean for Heinemann? Once Barger returns, what does it mean for, you know, is it Penango? Is it... Sanchez, some of these newer guys who were not on the radar in the spring, let alone this time last year, what do you think happens with these positioning battles, let's say a month from now, presuming everyone's back and healthy?
Yeah, guys, that's when the Blue Jays are in a good place, when they can start letting performance drive this. Performance has not been driving this in a lot of situations, and that's just by necessity. You need healthy bodies. You need guys who can play the infield, which is probably why Lenin Sosa is still on this roster, despite the fact he took a walk yesterday, guys, for the first time.
113 plate appearances, I think, this season. Lenin Sosa finally took a walk, but it's been ugly. And if David Schneider was playing like he did last year with a 797 OPS, a guy who fit this team perfectly, then that would be so much better. If Kirk were back, if Barger were back. I think that when Kirk is back right now, it's Brandon Valenzuela's job. I think he fully and completely deserves that.
And I think he's a big leaguer for the next five years with Alejandro Kirk. That's one hell of a catching tandem. That's a really good tandem in Major League Baseball. But then you get into the decisions about does Joendrik Pignango, does he stick around? Last night did not help. Wandering around in left field did not help whatsoever.
So you start to get into conversations where the best man wins. That's what this was supposed to be all along. But when you have so many injuries, things like having options or your position come into it. All of these factors that are not just who's the best ball player. The Blue Jays have not had that option enough, but I think that's coming.
And that can kind of get to what O-Dog mentioned earlier, that point where it starts to turn. The Jays just haven't been able to capture that identity yet because this is not who they thought would be here.
What about the rotation with Corbin pitching very well? I mean, I said yesterday he's kind of in this year's Eric Lauer. You know, when Beaver, I guess, had a pretty good stint in the minors, he's going to continue to rehab. I don't think he's like right around the corner from returning, but he will at some point. And when he does, he's going to pitch.

Well, that's it. The Leafs have, they got an owner, they got a board, and then they got a president and CEO, and then there's two different kind of co-GMs.
We'll see what they build here. Yeah, it's different. You'll see what they build here with Matt into John Chayka, into a new culture. That's what something, but...
And Matthews has got to be the driving force in all that. Agreed. And, you know, if he's going to be here and going to be the captain, then that doesn't change. You know, like he's got to be a leader. He's got to run the operation. And that's on him to do that. Right. You know, like he's the captain. They've anointed him the captain.
I just don't see this as like some ā like they have treated him with the utmost of respect for a decade. Right. The Leafs have treated him so well, and I'm not a believer that because it's a Zoom call instead of a flight, all of a sudden they're turning their back on this guy. I think that's outrageous. Go ahead.
I'm really glad you brought up that Vegas comparison because Vegas, this is how they would have handled it. Call Jack on the phone and say, is there a problem? Because if there is, we'll move you immediately and we'll get somebody else in here. Honestly, that would be their approach.
We love you as a player, but if you're going to be pissing and moaning and you're complaining about something, we'll find a different centerman. That's how they would do it.
That's what I'm saying. You know, like you mentioned the teams that are playing right now. You think Tulsky's like, oh, you know, Mark Stahl up in Thunder Bay. He's not happy. I better get on a bird up there. No. Like, that's just... It's 2026. You have the technology. If we got to hash something out, we can hash it out.
